Wonder if anyone has this problem with their bluetooth connection:

My phone makes perfect calls when I dial from the phone itself. Bluetooth connection is great....voice over speakers, microphone level, etc.... all is great!!!!.
The problem is...I can't dial from the NAV screen. When I try to enter a number and press dial, the connedction never makes it to my cell phone. I would eventually like to make calls using the NAV screen....anyone? And I have downloaded the latest firmware to my Treo 650

We have two 650s (Sprint) and don't have any problem. What year Prius do you have? Are the key's grayed out? This happens "for safety" when the car is in motion. Does everything work normally for incoming calls? Have you set up one-touch buttons and do they work?

I have the Sprint version of the Treo 650 as well. No problems at all. If you have the Sprint version make sure you have all the updates. I believe as of this date the latest version is 1.3. I have posted other info here too. Do a search.

    Cheers

I'm stumped. If you haven't already done so, I'd try deleting the phone from the Prius (and the Handsfree from the Treo Trusted Devices) and then go through the pairing process from scratch. Other than that, if you can borrow another bluetooth capable phone that would help determine if it's the car or the Treo. My Treos bluetooth connect right after startup, even if the phone is off (it is reported as out of range). Dialing from the Prius key pad, 1-touch or address book immediately displays the call in progress screen on the Treo. There are not any special settings needed on the Treo (ie. bluetooth needs to be ON but it doesn't need to be discoverable). Can't think of anything else it might be.

I don't have a Treo but I started getting the same problem after an update to my Samsung a920 (Sprint). I was working before the update - now it shows up as 'out of range' and the car won't initiate a call.

I had a similar problem on my 2004 and was able to clear the problem by deleting all phones and unplugging the NAV ECU (where bluetooth lives on the 04/05).

This effectively reset the bluetooth. I believe 2006 has the bluetooth relocated, now embedded in the radio. Perhaps pulling the radio fuse for a few seconds (after deleting all phones) will clear the issue.

Would pulling the radio fuse lose all setting, presets, etc? Is there more than one fuse?

I believe so. Hard to say given the widespread use of non-vol flash RAM these days.

The Treo 650 (Verizon) works well with the Prius system (I have a 2006 model). But the two have to be paired properly.

Here is the procedure for doing this. It answers almost all of the bluetooth connection problems that I have read on Prius Chat.

Prius and Verizon Treo 650 Success!

Pairing the a Verizon serviced Treo 650 with the Prius Bluetooth system has been a challenge, but once done successfully is well worth the effort. Hopefully this post will help others do this with greater ease. Unfortunately, I have found that Verizon techs and Toyota salesmen, repairmen and techs tend to know very little about the procedure. Infact, most Toyota people and the Toyota web site refer people to the "LetsTalk.com" web site. This site is currently a complete waste of time, and does not list the Treo or any other Verizon phone as being compatible with the Prius. The Toyota sales people are simply trained to refer to this third party company and most of them have never looked at the web site for themselves.

    1. First you must do the firmware upgrade to 1.04 software. Go to the Palm website http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/t...er/verizon.html and download the update. Make sure that you have at least 30 minutes of uninterrupted time to devote to this. You can use either a Mac or Windows computer. But you MUST have the Treo connected to its power cord or else the update will not work.

Without this update the Treo can recognize the Prius bluetooth, but the Prius will not complete the connection with the phone.

I recommend printing out the detailed instructions on completing this update from the Palm website and following those directions to the T. This is a MAJOR upgrade and the procedure will automatically copy ALL of your software to your Mac or PC, erase everything from your Treo, and then transfer ALL of your original material back to the Treo. You may need to re-enter registration passwords for some of the software on the Treo.

When you finish use the Palm directions to check that you really do have the new version of the software on your phone!

    2. At this point you will be able to make the bluetooth connection between the Prius and the Treo, except that the connection will fail after the first call. You will find that you will have to re-register the phone in the Prius with every call.

To prevent this do the following:
    a. go to the applications list
    b. select preferences
    c. under communication, select "Hands Free"
    d. change autoanswer to anything other than "disable". The default was disable.

Now, anytime that you enter your car with the phone on your belt, in your pocket or in your purse the Prius will automatically connect and your calls will ring through the stereo. Calls have an astounding clarity!

The above instructions are for the Treo 650, I have know idea what problems may be encountered with the Treo 700 because that version is a hybrid between the Palm world and the Microsoft Windows world.
