Ready to buy a Prius v (lowercase v)!

    I am thrilled with the size and fuel economy, but should have done more research on safety! I'm concerned about the poor rating on the small overlap crash test. Also reading about the mouse problems has me hoping I haven't made a $30,000 mistake!

    The test was announced in 2012, same year as the v went on sale. (obviously it was designed before the test was announced) The 2015 refresh addresses the small overlap test. It is not like they come with mice, are there pre-existing mice in your garage?

    What are the odds that one would get involved with the exact same conditions in a collision of the sort in the IIHS test? Not likely at all.

    A 3-5 degree or a couple of inches offset to the right or left, would more likely than not change the outcome.

    The test is an impact to an immovable barrier. Most highway barriers or impact to another vehicle is not to an immovable barrier.

    How much credence do I give to this test. Very little.


    IMHO, it is done more for marketing and publicity purposes.
