bcool...scary picture! Glad you came through it relatively unscathed! Even sadder picture for those of us with a salsa!! Good luck with the job hunt. My company is going through a down-sizing as we speak, and I did not wait to see who would be road kill from that...I start a new job Monday. Keep us posted, and I wish for you a great new job that will allow you to get another Pri!

So sorry for your loss, but likewise very glad to see you are still standing! Hurrah for the Toyota engineers and their excellent safety features. I, for one, am very glad I purchased a Prius knowing you had no serious damage after a crash like that.

I hope your bumps, bruises and strains go away...a good massage therapist can help with the muscle aches and strains...

When my wife's Windstar was declared totaled by the insurance company, we had the option of either getting the money and they kept the car, or keeping the car and getting only 80% of the amount. That, in theory, would be used to repair the damage. We decided doing the former, and I'm sure it yelded several usable parts (it wasn't nearly as bad as this accident). We have no idea where it went when we signed the papers.

Sorry to hear about your loss on the Prius, but at least you came out OK and that's the important thing.

Do you still have access to it? All CD/DVD drives have a paperclip hole (usually near the button) that can be used to eject when power is off.

Maybe you acn also pop the HSD logo off the back, as a token (Bill Merchant style)

I thought about the paper clip trick, but it doesn't have a tray - just a slot where the DVD comes out (like the CD player in the dash). I looked around for a little hole to poke a paper clip in, but I didn't see one. Maybe I just missed it - I had trouble bending over in that small spot in the condition I'm in :)

Thanks again to everyone for the well-wishes and suggestions. Worst case, I can hope my (brief) ownership helped to raise awareness of the possibilities of hybrids among my acquaintances.

Very sorry you lost your car. Very glad it protected you as well as it did. Score one for the safety rating of the Prius. Air bags were the main reason I finally decided to trade off my old '89 Civic. (It didn't have them).

I'll add my thanks to the rest for your safetly.

I only use copies of my CDs in the car for this very reason. Actually, in case the car is broken into and the CDs are stolen.

Have you considered buying a used Prius instead of a new one? Maybe a 2004 or 2005? They have side curtain airbags too and wouldn't cost as much as a new 2006. You might have to give up NAV. I have a package 1 2005 and I love it. After having driven it only a few days I can't go back to a regular car anymore. And I've had to a few times for various reasons. Worst is driving my Dad's truck to carry furniture too large for the Prius to haul. It's only 10 miles and only 15 min. one way. But I just hate the noise and the feel and just everything. I always try to get them to let me drive them in my Prius because I don't like riding as a passenger in their Cadillac.

Oh no! That's terrible. Considering you live in the same city as me, I haven't yet (and never will) spot your Prius on the road! :(

I'm glad you're OK and didn't remember the painful incident. Good luck on your new car purchase. If you're going cheaper, at least make it fuel efficient. Get a Corolla!
