I just got my new Superwhite Prius 2006 and I am on my second day of driving it.

I noticed today that the prius engine often bucks a bit as its is being shut down at a stop. Quite often the entire car gives a quick shake as if there was a pre-ignition.

I didn't notice this the first day of driving but today it was doing it all day.

    Is this a common behavior?

Yes, this is "normal". From what others have told me, the ICE tries to burn off as much of the fuel as it can...so it feels like it stalls. I notice it more from time to time, depending on temperature, and how much/hard the ICE has been running.

What would not be normal is if the car actually jumped forward. Mine pretty much just gives a good shudder.

Thanks - a shudder is a good description.

BTW - I've seen your post and several others mention a rear bumper protector. What is this and where do you find them? - a site search using that phrase didn't help much.

    Do you mean like this:

It is a Toyota part. Can be had from any dealer - mine is from a dealer on Ebay. There is also a clear "applique" as an option.

I see, different than what I was imagining. I guess this is helpfull if you are loading heavy things
    into the hatchback.

The shudder is normal when the car's new and when the car's cold. I think it shudders more violently when new but then again, it rarely gets below freezing here anyway. Once summer arrives and everything in the drivetrain has smoothen itself out, you won't notice the shudder.

I have found that there is a black, oem, like shown and also a clear, 3m type with the word Prius printed through out it. I have found both of these, for less, via eBay.
