Guy at Crutchfield just told me I had to limit my max consumption to 30 amps for my '10 because it would affect other systems in the car? Looking to install 70watt/channel 4 channel amp with a component setup in the front and a sub in the rear on a stock head unit...

Lets assume you are careful to only use electricity when the car is READY.

A 100 amp fuse protects the DC to DC inverter, so you really should not draw over 90 amps. The car obviously draws some of that.

My 2010 Prius II has been running a JL HD 900/5 Amp 4 years without any issue. If I remember correctly, I have an inline 60 amp fuse between the 12 VDC battery and amp (placed close to the battery). frodoz Stereo Upgrade | PriusChat

    Thanks for the replies all

Jimbo, yup, read that thread a couple times. No offence to the OP, but I am not interested in blowing my brains out or funding the hearing aid manufacturers in my old age. Looking more for more well rounded sound quality with a little thumpy feel on my 120 mile commute...

I was more surprised by the info from the Crutchfield guy. I was looking at running a Kenwood 70x4 amp driving a JL sub in the rear and Polk components in the front from a stock head unit...He seamed to make it sound like I could cause damage to my ride. Alarmist much?

Perhaps that was Crutchfield's lawyers speaking. Just make sure you do your installation per industry standards and you will be fine. The factory HU will be the weak link however. Look at it like building a computer...you can throw all kinds of RAM and drives at one, but true performance is limited by the CPU and motherboard.

Or he may have worried you would try to use ACC mode. Never do that.

And maybe they really said, or meant, 30 amps of added load for after-market accessories......maybe.

    100% agreed.

All we can do is speculate, so he would have to ask them to clarify.
