I recently purchased a used 2012 Prius Plug-In Base. I just fully charged it on electricity and the range is shown as 12.1 Miles (electric only). Also when my gas tank is full the range shows 400 Miles (gas range only). I was wondering if these range estimates are correct or if something is wrong with my Prius?? I understand that these are estimated but just wanted to make sure.

    Thank you in advance.

First, let's understand a bit about these estimates.
They are both based on recent past driving patterns so if you drive very aggressively they will be lower or if you drive frugaly they will eventually climb. The EV miles estimate primarily reflects previous driving in EV mode and the present battery "state of charge". The EV estimate is influenced, rather dramatically, by whether the climate control fan is in operation. The miles to empty INCLUDES EV and gas miles. The miles to empty is based on a gas tank capacity of about 8 gallons leaving over a 2 gallon reserve.

is there a way to reset the Prius to no longer use the previous drivers driving habits? As for the 12.1 miles EV, nothing was turned on just the vehicle itself, but i get your point. So i have this right, the miles to empty, since the vehicle is estimated to get 50 mpg according to the EPA and it has a 10 gallon tank ( 8 regular use, 2 reserve) the total miles drive-able is 500 miles even though the range is shown to be 400 miles correct??

Yes there is a way to reset the computer's memory, remove the positive battery terminal for 10 minutes and everything will return to default, except the odometer's driven miles.

It's not that simple... cars generally suffer from efficiency loss in winter, so it may very well be below EPA currently.

But it is correct that the estimate does not necessarily reflect the actual range. All it's doing is giving an indication of what to expect based on recent driving history - assuming the conditions are the same. What range you actually get is not affected by the estimate, only the other way around.
