I have a rear tow hitch on my truck. Not one scratch on my bumper. ( A huge bruise on my shin though for forgetting it was there last week though)
If people are such horrible drivers and they hit my bumper...then they deserve "personal responsibility" for their actions.

I have personally never witnessed a person back up at more than 40 mph into a parked car but hey, I guess it can happen right? LoL.
The hooks would be to ward off jerks who bump and go with no regard for the car that they bump.

Ok, maybe I missed your point and will get back on track and stop thinking you are protecting the idiot who backs into cars and just smiles. Apologies if that is not what you are doing.

Do you feel that a bump at five miles per hour could inflict that much damage to my car? The intended purpose of that hook is to withstand weight from a tow vehicle but another car would be able to rip it out of the frame from a stand still "pull away" from my bumper?

With the five mph back up bump I will incur scratches on my front bumper and maybe a few aesthetic dings....with the tow hooks, I will incur funny looks from the kids who race their cars and maybe bruise my shins when I am running around the car.

The damages that it does to a person who hits my car is none of my concern.....That is theirs. It's not my job to take care of their bumpers. Just mine. That's their Kharma if they are so careless and back up into my cars.

I like cars and I like my lil Prius. Not ready to give up my balls just to drive it though.

Planning for impacts is not as good as avoiding them.

To avoid them, he'd have to fab up some big foam rubber spikes that looked like rusty steel.

    I don't know.

Those hooks were designed to PULL, not push and I would be concerned with the result of an impact.
Those talking about pulling off the bumper are just being funny I think.

And since your intended purpose is vindictive.........you often reap what you sow. :(

I used a different approach: I visited a very large auto salvage yard in rural Virginia. It turns out the had a barrel of used tow hooks from all different makes and models, and they let me sort through them until I found 2 longer tow hooks that had the EXACT diameter and type of thread as my original. They apparently came from a different Toyota model and were anodized aluminum coated and a out 3 inches longer than my original. So consider a salvage yard as I was charged $5 for each one.

And in keeping with the original thread title.......
I WONDER what would happen if someone walked briskly by your car and banged their shin on your modification and broke their leg and sued you ?????
In many places in the US, it is illegal to leave a ball hitch sticking out the back of a vehicle when it is not in use.
I WONDER if the same law could be applied to things sticking out in the front ??
