Any suggestions on how to feel better about the miniscule rear wiper on my Prius C? Coming from a VW Golf with adequate wiper coverage, I just cringe every time I look at or use the rear wiper on my C. I'm guessing it's not possible to just buy a larger wiper and not use the dorky cover thing supplied by Toyota.

I wish it were bigger too, but my only suggestion for how to deal with it is to "deal with it."

*Sigh* that's what I tell myself every time I use it. Or when I tell myself not to use it hahahaha. I mean, if this is my biggest complaint life is pretty good.

you really have no other option but to live with it since putting a larger one is not possible because of the height of the windshield.

It seems you don't have an option as far as improving the wiper.

The rear window wiper on a standard Prius is similarly poor in my opinion.

Here is my anal retentive, somewhat obsessive "solution", or at least how I deal with my dissatisfaction with the rear wiper.- I make sure I need to use it less.

I went to Bed, Bath and Beyond, although I imagine you can find this product in any bathroom accessory department. I bought a "Shower Squeegee". I keep in the back, it's small and compact. I use Rain-X wiper fluid in the washer reservoir. When I notice the rear window getting excessively dirty, I pull the squeegee out and wipe off the rear window.

Using both products in combination I rarely have to use the wiper. This isn't actually fixing the problem, but at least when I look out the back, I'm not dissatisfied with the rather small oval of "clean" the rear wiper creates.

I don't think that's strictly true because there appears to be at least an inch and a half clearance at both ends of the wiper blade to the narrowest part of the window.

I have wanted to research finding a longer replacement but have not tried that yet.
It may very well be true that there is no suitable longer compatible blade.
I would even consider one that it TOO long and trying to cut it down some.

For the purpose of spotting traffic in your rear, I suppose it was considered adequate by the designers.

Tacky to quote myself here but from a similar prior thread:

No joy here. I taped 1" extensions onto both ends of the stock blade to determine a 10" blade *might* work, so I got a cheap one from Amazon. The new blade required a slight mod to get it mounted to the wiper arm but it didn't clean worth a darn so I switched back to the stock blade. I'm still looking for a fix 'cause that's one of the few annoyances of my C.

I don't know if my old eyes are deceiving me or not, but, it seems that the amount of water and dirt on my rear window has decreased significantly since I installed wind deflectors on my front and rear side windows. I drove tractor trailers for 50 years, so I'm kind of anal about watching what's going on behind my vehicle in addition to the front and sides. Anyway, I seem to be using my rear window wiper a lot less since I got the deflectors. Came as a big surprise to me.

We don't need no stinkin' rear wiper.

I have had the car over two and a half years and have wished I had the wiper once. I got over it.
Aquapel on the windows and frequent cleaning take care of it.

What did you use to cover the hole after taking out the wiper motor?

I used the original rubber grommet and a clip or retainer (like those used to hold panels, etc.) I had lying around. You can easily find one that fits at your local auto parts store.

Well if Toyota did not install a rear wiper, someone would complain that they did not include one, the one they did include is the best that they could do with the size restrictions. It is what it is, I personally never have used mine, its more for show!

As ufourya has pointed out, the rear wiper is useless. I apply RainX on the rear window and clean it as required.

With a different design they could have installed a larger wiper to cover more surface area (such as a blade mounted through the glass making a staight arch with no elbow). Even the current design could have been an inch or two longer and still cleared the spoiler.

An inch or two would help one see what?
