Well, I never thought it would happen to me, but my 2007 Prius with 159,000 miles freaked out the other night, flashed all the warning lights, lost power, and was diagnosed with a failing HV battery pack. I dislike the customer service at the dealership I bought the car from, I have seldom used them during the life of the car. When I towed it there to get it checked, the Service Guy said he'd only seen 2 other instances of dead batteries in his many years there, and basically assured me that Toyota would cover it, even though I'm *just* outside of warranty. I had them fix a leaky water pump in good faith, hoping that Toyota would do me right. This morning I got a call, and he basically said that since I didn't do much periodic maintenance at the dealership, Toyota decided NOT to cover me.

    So here I am.

Can anyone recommend a good 3rd party repair shop in San Diego or another way to handle this? I stopped using the dealership for maintenance long ago due to terrible customer service issues, and this seals the deal. I have no interest in giving them any more money.

Thanks for any help you can give.

You can try calling Toyota HQ yourself and see if you can get any goodwill there

Thanks JC. Any suggestions as to what mitigating factors might help my case?

    1. Your car is 7 years old
    2. Just out of mileage warranty at 159k (I would not drive it to 160k for now)
    3. Dealer diagnosed battery failure while you were getting water pump replacement.
    4. It's nearing Christmas and you haven't received a Christmas gift yet and could use a "goodwill" warranty because of how much you love Toyota cars.

I spoke with Toyota Corporate, they declined any assistance and kicked it back into the hands of the dealership's on-site customer relations person. Looks like this won't end up the way I hoped.
