My Miata and VW TDI forums each have a thread where you can post what you did to/with/for/etc your car; I didn't see one here but if there is one please let me know.

Anyway, I installed a Wolo Talking Back-Up Alert in my wife's Prius today:

    I got mine from Amazon.

Didn't do it all today, but I've been busy with it over the past few weeks since I bought it used for my daughter. Although it had a salvage title, I had an independent mechanic and also a Toyota mechanic inspect it before purchase. Both could find nothing significantly wrong with it and no codes were thrown. I was able to inspect it with the independent mechanic while up on the lift and ask a bunch of questions.

Other than a bit nicer shine on the paint and the wheels, you won't see the difference as much of the work is under the hood.

full detail including wash, claybar, wax, vinyl, glass, and deep interior cleaning plus spot steam cleaning
replaced engine and cabin air filters
replaced radiator cap due to signs of leakage
    emissions inspection
added interior and license plate LEDs
    calibrated headlights
    purchased Haynes Prius repair manual
    replaced ATF
    new ATF drain plug
    new PCV valve
    cleaned throttle body & MAF
checked and topped off all fluids
inspected rear brake shoe wear (OK)
inspected front disk wear (brand new)
    visually inspected underbody/exhaust system
    disabled Reverse beep
    replaced horns
    installed center brake light flasher
    replaced driver seat post cover
added rear shade & console light
    cleared A/C condensation drain line
replaced numerous missing fasteners on bumpers
inspected tires (new tires needed soon)
    purchased spare key from ovni
purchased MVCI cable and TIS software (this should come in handy with my Tacoma also)
purchased FJC Radiator Coolant refill kit and Lisle funnel for future use

I was able to locate a substantial portion (though possibly not all) of the service history from Toyota Owners website by entering the VIN. I learned that it had oil change, alignment and new brake pads done immediately before my purchase; coolant was replaced at 74K when water pump was replaced under recall by previous owner; all other recall work done at that time. Brake system flush was done at 66K.

    Next steps

[DONE] Adding Rude person's box-beam chassis stiffening plate
[DONE] new tires - Kumho Solus KR21
    [DONE] Clean hybrid battery fan
    Touch-up undercarriage with bed liner
Add gutter guard screen protection in front of radiators
    [DONE] the inevitable replacement 12V
    Adding mud guards
    Adding leather steering wheel cover
    [DONE] Adding license plate frame
    Possibly adding custom shift knob
    Possibly adding Maxpider floor mats
    Possibly adding window tint
    Possibly upgrading sound system
[DONE] Repair the hatchback switch cover

The more I learn about the Prius, the more impressed I am with the engineering put into this vehicle. While some of the tasks appear to be daunting to someone like me who's a relative auto repair newbie, the amount of help you can get from this site and from YouTube quickly closes the gap on learning. And the mysteries of this car become clearer and easier to deal with.

Before I purchased and started any of this, I started reading on PC about what to look out for and what and how to DIY on a Prius. This is a truly priceless resource so thanks to all you guys/gals who contribute to the forums. Couldn't/wouldn't have done it without y'all.

Talk with you guys more soon.

definitely tint those windows. it gets f--kin hot inside during the summer. and never ever leave a window down when your not in the car. a little rain and you'll smell mildew forever.

I used a separated ball joint from a tundra to make a new shifter. I cut off the threaded part, drilled the center out, and threaded it to screw onto the rod. Also, I plasti dipped my spoiler and that plastic panel under the spoiler and a bove the lisence plate.

Being from the South, gotta love that user name.

I like the dipped panel. I think I'll do that. I kinda like the paint-match spoiler though so I'll keep that.

Got new TARS all around on Friday - Kumho Solus KR21s. Today cut and hid the OVNI spare key and cleaned the battery fan. Doubt that this 2008 (83K) fan has ever been cleaned. Not in critical shape but dirty. No accumulation of hair/fur or other contaminants that would block flow, but there was dust embedded on the blades that I had to rub off with a small brush. Used compressed air to dislodge it and vacuumed it all out. Disassembly and reassembly went smoothly. Excellent instructions here.

I built a rat rod, called "Priustoric" with a 2007 prius and a 1955 wooden Thompson boat.

Put in a new 12v battery on the 2008 today. Toyota OEM 84-month. Charged to max before installing. Measured voltage after installation was 12.4v after READY. Better than the sub-12v measurement I was getting on the old (I think original) one.

Installation went smoothly except that I discovered a very small amount of liquid (about 1 tsp of water, I think) in the battery well. I soaked it up with a paper towel...didn't appear to be acid and there was no evidence of a battery leak. I'll check the body seams now to make sure I don't have the crack that others have reported.

Looks good Delta. My wife loves that color.

I did this a couple of weeks ago...forgot to post.

Next mods...add leather cover to steering wheel and add gutter guard inside grill to afford the radiator some additional protection from rocks/debris. Also, gotta troubleshoot the issue with the fuel gauge.
