Well “restrictions†was a poor choice of words on my part. Social stigma against porn would have been more accurate way of expressing my opinion.

As for puritenizing and demonizing I am referring to things like outlawing strip clubs and for that matter, prostitution. We have also charged owners of pornography companies with conspiracy, (Larry Flint). That is where I feel we as a country tend to puritonize and demonize sexuality.

I think it should be legal.

One could argue that legalizing prostitution and regulating it and taxing it would be a good thing. It would get it off the streets and into a business where it can be more easily controlled and monitored. Requiring health inspections and such.

To think it is ever going to go away is unrealistic.

That's quite a ramble, windstrings, but making ME the subject of it doesn't cut it.

    The questions remain.

Where does one draw the distinction between "Debbie does Dallas" and a love scene between consenting partners? Why is it Ok to show someone's nice person on TV but not a penis? Our ideas about sex do impact crimes on sex.

Anyone will become addicted to something at anytime if it is their nature to do so. Some people fight addictions better than others.

Everything damages the soul in excessive amounts, even religious adherence. Burning people at stakes, blowing up abortion centers, crusading, becoming a suicide bomber for 100 virgins in return. All as bad as pedophile trading with child porn.

My soul hasn't spoken to me yet after seeing naked cupids in Sistine Chapel nor after seeing naked human bodies in all types of representations imaginable. How does one know about the state of his/her soul? Does lack of tolerance destroy one's soul as well?

On the contrary, I find aesthetic beauty in nakedness of human body. Manifested through artistic human evolution from early Lascoux paintings until today in 3D renditions. What about the symbolisms of fertility, phallic celebrations known within so many religions?

Porn is a by-product of human curiosity and demand, no religion nor moral and ethical evaluation will be able to clearly define negative and positive aspects of it. It's all culturally pending on amount of control and a form of religious indoctrination.

Mr. Schmika forgive me for my libertine sins :)

Anything you're not willing to do in front of either your boss, significant other, parent or child is wrong.

Except Video games. Those are OK

You would have sex with your spouse in front of your parents, child or boss? As for video games, only some of them are okay... specifically, the ones I like.

Like anything else, it can be abused, and negative resultants thereof can, and will, occur.

This is just like nudity in public, look at other countrys that allow topless or full nudity on their beaches... it becomes common place and some lose intrest ..

But I guess as someone else said , It's like drugs and alcohol... some dabble and some get obssessed... I really think it attibutes to many of the more hideous crimes of sex and violence, because the perverts want to act out what they see in the books with real women....

I remember as a kid aged 6 & seeing my 16yro brothers playboy mag. I asked what it was? he explained it was a medical book and if I looked at it again I would get worms and they would eat my face off. :(

 Liar! LOL, I believed it until I was 11 when a friend showed me his brothers mags and explained it all to me.

Yeah cool pictures but never had the urge to browse the adult mags.. <_<

This is typical liberalism. Porn becomes nudity. Nudity becomes sexual realations with your wife.

Nudity is not automatically Porn nor is sex with your spouse or other consenting adult.

Pornography, as the majority of reasonable people would define it, does nothing to elevate us from our animal side. It denigrates us.

You want to wallow in that filth???? Go ahead!

I agree this is not the place to judge and it's not our place in any place anyway... did that make sense?

Anyway, usually no one has to judge... not even God, but we reap what we sow and our own ways punish us.

Those who get lost in Porn loose thier sensitivity for what woman is, even what a man is. They no longer relate based on the deeper parts of thier being, but rather on a very shallow artificial way.
IN time, they feel nothing is real and no one can be trusted and on one cares... of course they are only judgeing based on how the feel about everyone else.
Everyone becomes self centered only interested in feeding thier habit.

Its having the intimacy without the relationship.

Let me tell you a little nursury rhyme...
Once upon a time there was a big bad wolf who got an eye for a cute little girl called "Little Red Riding Hood"... he tired to draw close to her daily by dressing in a non offensive, non threaning way by putting on sheeps clothing and speaking nice complimentary things to her. However it was not real as it was all lies and it was only his lust driving him. His lust to eat her for dinner!

Porn is the same way.. its an appetite that is similiar to a fire that only gets bigger when fed.
It turns sensitive young men with promise to feel and to love into self centered wolves who only get angered when someone does not want to play thier game.

Lust is only interested in feeding itself... only in "taking"
Love is only interested in blessing and building the other... only in "giving"

    Two completely different spirits.

Most do not understand relations with thier spouse without pure lust being the driving force...It goes something like this: I take what I need and you take what you need and we both are satisfied..
Rather than I give what you need, and you give what I need and we both are satisfied.

Porn also brings the element of rejection... the ladies on the pages give, yet the ladies in real life don't without a price. Why don't they want to give? Yet if the guy finds a lady that gives without a price and a relationship, she is trashed and not respected and treated as a fool.

Why aren't they so giving as the artificial ones on the pages?.. is the lust sensed and they either run away?, or does the wolf have to be so deceptive that their prey is totally smitten and devestated when the wolf takes his fill and then leaves the bloody pieces to heal on thier own the best they can.. all the while the chalk it up as another trophy on thier shelf.

Once someone eats a hamburger and is filled, he no longer wants a hamburger until he gets hungry again.. Porn is the same way.

Thats why girls are so dumbfounded when guys are so interested in them, only to leave them once they get what they want.... it was only an appetite...

Because the appetite was filled without relationship, there is nothing left after the appetite is satisfied to maintain the relationship.

Guys get wounded... ladies get burn't.. so everyone gives up on love and just decides to take what they can whenver they can. It becomes a jungle of survival of the fittest.

I really believe with the aid of Hollywood, we have degenerated faster on a global level to the breakdown of relationships, families, and social fiber to where murders and anger, and fierce bitterness prevails due the core of a soul being destroyed from someone possessed with porn in the last 30 years then in the last 3000.

I hate to quote the good book again... but it fits the last days mentality... this is only another comfirmation of what I speak:
(Mat 24:12 KJV) And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

Remember we are not talking about condemnation here.... we are talking about negative byproducts and results....We are talking about negative crops growing from bad seed..... if after reading and hearing all this, you get condemned, its not because anyone here is doing it. :)

The problem I have with this remark is the implication that all addictions are created equal. They ain't. Meth is a much different addiction compared to, say, caffeine.

Where does porn fall in the continuum? We obviously disagree here in this thread, but I fall on the side that sees porn as a blow against our dignity. What is porn? I subscribe to the "I know it when I see it" (sic) point of view. Finding aesthetic beauty in the nude form is perfectly legit. But porn objectifies, if you'll pardon me dragging out that dead horse carcass of a word for a moment.

This thread is totally useless and divisive, by the way. No one's gonna convince me that porn is okay, and I'm certainly not going to manage to get the pro-pr0n people to agree that it's a mistake.

    Mr Schmika,

As you've missed my previous post about what constitutes porn in my reply to yours.

May I ask you if you consider studying and gaping at statue of Venus De Milo as wallowing in filth?
I'm not sure, as I gather from your statement that any nudity borders on perverse porn.

Also, do you consider the depiction of bas-relieved temple of Khajuraho as a porn /erotica /cultural and religious rendition of sexuality? This marvel is listed in the greatest cultural endowments of mankind, World Heritage Site:

    http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/240

    http://www.anthroarcheart.org/kajurah2.htm

While one walks through Vatican Treasures one stumbles at many nude depictions, some are VERY erotic, are they also perverse porn?

This will help me understand how you percive porn/nudity deliniation and perhaps can disclose the nature of your moral judgment on us the libertine ones (as we may have proclivity for liberal arts) are we evil?

Forgive me for my sarcastic tone :)
