My wife and I bought a 2006 Barcelona Metallic Red Prius on March 31st.

We had thought long and hard about getting one. On tuesday (march 27th) I decided to call all the toyota dealers in the area where I live, just to see if there was one I could test drive, and to see how long the waiting list were. The experience was half painful. There were 6 dealerships in the metro area, and 3 of them were rude about it. Making me feel like I was a reject just for wanting to test drive the car first. The other three were nice and one of them even had a Prius they kept just for test driving. On a whim I called a dealer that was two hours away from my home (and one that I had heard about on these forums because of their warrenty prices and handling), just to see, but they didn't have one either. All the dealerships took my name and number but told me the waiting list was on average 4 months in the area (one dealer said minimum of 1 year and meanly laughed at me for even asking).

On Thursday the dealership that was two hours away from me called me back and said they had the Prius I wanted. Exactly as I wanted it (package 2 Red with Dark Grey fabric).

So on friday we bought it. 4 days after making the initial call. Dreams do come true.

I love the car. If I could find a way to keep the cd track listing on all the time instead of it switching back to the engine/motor display I would be happier. And once my gas tanks bladder expands and I feel like I'm getting more fuel in the tank.. then I'll be ecstatic.

So thats my story. Priuschat.com has been a great help to my wife and I on deciding to purchase this car. Thank You all.

That's pretty easy...at least it is on the '04/'05 I hope the '06 is the same or similar:
Push the INFO button on the bezel around the MFD
Touch "Screen Settings" on the display
There should be something that says "automatically switch back to XXXXX" OFF/ON---turn OFF auto-switching. Now it should stay on whatever screen you're on until you change it.

    Congrats on your new purchase.

So you know, there is a way to prevent the screen from returning to the consumption screen.

    It's in the display settings.

    Have fun!

I guess screen settings would of been too obvious for me! Thanks.

Many congratulations! Just the color I wanted until my wife told me I would be getting too many tickets! :D When my second chioice came in first, I took it.

This car grows on you. Things you may initially see as shortcomings will become inconsequential as you realize its strengths.

Also, your concerns if they can be corrected, are probably addressed on this board somewhere, or if you ask, one of these great people will find the answers you seek.

I recommend you get a bra for it - quickly, the paint seems to chip easily for some reason, I have never experienced it to the degree I have on this car. I didn't want the look of a naughahyde bra so went with a clear/TransparentBra this time.

Regardless, enjoy your new Prius and Welcome to the club of proud Prius owners! ;)

My Canadian colleague beat me to it:

Welcome to PC! And congrats! Your description of how the "deposit and reservation game" actually works is a scream. Be sure to drive by the dealer that derisively told you "a year". Thank them for getting you "fired up".

I'm going to start a "Cool Dudes and Dudettes With Red Priuses" club.

What exactly is the plural of Prius?

Unfortunately for me, the dealership that told me one year, with a snarky laugh, happens to be the one across the street from my work. I will be kind to them because they will probably be doing work on my car in the future.

The funny thing about the 'deposit and reservation game' is that I didn't reserve or deposit anything. I had just called around to inquire about it, and boom! Got one. The dealer we bought from was a great guy, and the whole shop seemed responsive and nice. If only I lived closer to them.

Some of us use Priuses, others use Prii. Take your pick.

    2006 Prius
I had a truly bizarre experience when I got my 2006 Prius. First of all, I didn't need a car, as I had bought a 2005 Corolla a year earlier -- clear title, no payments.
But I never liked my Corolla. I didn't hate it, it just wasn't my first choice. On a fluke one morning, I went out to the Toyota dealership just to see if it was feasible in my budget to get a new Prius. I was fully expecting to wait 4-5 months, and I hadn't done much research as to what options I wanted.

Imagine my surprise when they had the color I wanted on the lot. And when we talked money, the payments were within $2 of what I had decided I could afford. So I got carried away, and jumped on it!

My only mistake was that my car didn't get the package with side airbags. If I had had to wait anyway, I would have gotten the exact package I wanted, but for something that happened so fast, I don't really have any regrets.

Now from my story, you can surmise that it was not well thought out, extravagent, in short, nuts. But I swear, everytime I get in the car, I get this rush. I just love it. I love it when I do something stupid, and it turns out so well!

I bought the car in January, and then I was hospitalized for February and half of March, so I still get that new thrill. I wish I could meet a man who would get my heart going so!

Looking back, I should of gone for the package with side airbags also. Last night I watched a crash test of the 2004 Prius without side airbags and the front held up really well, but it looked like the dummy smacked his head pretty good on the side window (there wasn't a window in the video, but if there was.. ouch).

I never thought I would love a car as much as I do this Prius. I got it on Friday and have driven it 670 miles as of this morning. I've had to stop twice for gas and couldn't get much into the tank (7 gallons first time, and 5.5 the second, but I filled up at two blocks the first, and 3 the second). I'm a bit paranoid because of the storys on here about running out of gas. That doesn't make me love it any less.

The car has me wrapped around its finger... if it had fingers.
