Weather got cold last night and froze everything. When I went to start my wife's car she had left the wipers in the on position the night before and I did not notice it. Once I turned the car on, the wipers went to start moving but were frozen. Once I realized it I quickly switched it to the off position, but it was too late. After defrosting everything and cleaning the windshield, the wipers will not work. I thought first it was a blown fuse so I switched it out with a new one, but still no luck. After my engine turned off I could hear the wiper motor running but no moving on the wipers. I have checked the nuts that hold the base of the wipers in place and they are tight. Does any body have any suggestions for me. I have a 2007 Prius as well. Thanks in advanced for any help.

Remove the wiper arms and see if the gears are stripped. While the arms are removed, look at the motor and see if it turns.

    Is
Is that something hard to do? I know there are nuts that hold it down. The wipers also move together freely, that so may be it.

I thought you said you check the nut that holds the wiper in place? Remove that nut, take the wiper arm off and look at it. When you turn the wiper on, that bolt where the nut fits onto should move.

Ok well the bolt does not move. Will I need to order a replacement motor then?

Wow, a new one MSRP is $231.58. Online prices for them are at $167.06 at camelback toyota.

    Both sides are not working?

Here is the troubleshooting table....just in case it's not the motor.

Well once I took everything apart, I found that the assembly that ties the wiper arms to the motor was disconnected and the spring had flown off. The hardest part was getting that spring back on. But about 45 minutes totaled and they are working again. Thanks for your help.
