Much quicker turnaround time the second time around. I've been sitting dormant for about a week now after getting the car. I'll be getting fastrak taken care of this week, but I've been told to wait for my plates before sending in the HOV registration. It took over a month for you to get your plates and registration...I hope mine goes faster.

You definately do not have to wait. I have stickers and no plates right now. If I didn't order my FastTrak transceiver from San Diego, I'd already have that too.

I'm starting to believe that they lost my application.
They cashed my check a month ago.
Is there a number to call for inquiries?

    thanks

My check was cleared more than a month ago on 2/27/06.
Last week, I got my title, which has the plate # (but no plate yet).
I called DMV today at (800)777-0133 option 0, and asked about the status of my clean air sticker.
They asked for my plate # and told me that it was processed on 3/17/06 and that I should get it by 4/17/06.
They sure took a long time to process mine...

So you just used your VIN # when you apploed?
I just got my title too (no plates yet), I'll give them a call about my status tomorrow.

Yes. I just use the VIN and left the license plate # blank.

One thing that I've noticed is that people that get their plates from dealer seem to be waiting longest for their stickers. Would that be a safe assumption?

Since I bought my car out of state, I had to wait for the paperwork to come from the dealer until I could go to the DMV (about 10 days). I sent out the sticker app with just the VIN on a Monday and went to the DMV to register the car (and get the plates) on that week Thursday. I did it that way on purpose to time it out that the registration got into the DMV's computer before they got the sticker app. I got the stickers about two weeks later.

Some of these month long or more waits...it seems to me that perhaps the dealers are dragging their feet on getting the DMV paperwork out.

I'm guessing that its more likely the time it takes for the application to get processed in the DMV. Most dealers seem to send the apps to DMV, and then the DMV has to process them and get them into the computer. If a clean air app arrives and the VIN does not show in the system, I think that's when it gets rejected or waits.

I am not aware of being able to pick up plates from the dealer, I thought all new cars purchased in CA got their plates DMV directly after the dealer turns in paperwork. I saw elsewhere on a thread that some dealers do have plates, but they cannot give them out until they send the registration application to DMV, DMV returns something, and then the dealer returns something else...who knows...??

Regardless, the wait is frustrating, and certainly doesn't seem to guarantee that the sticker applications are necessarily processed in the order they are received.

    Bought Car 3/07/06 (Used)
    Mailed Application 03/08/06
    Check Cashed: 03/2406
Recieved Stickers: 03/25/06 (I am guessing, because I was gone for the weekend and they were in the mail when I got back, but were not in Monday's mail).

I just called them and they gave me the number for the DMV Special Processing Center in Sacramento.
The problem is that the number rings busy no matter when you call.
Did they refer you to that number too?

No. I just call the 800 number and press "0" for the operator/technician. I told her what I'm calling for and she asked for my plate #. Then she looked it up on her computer and told me what she found.

I applied for a carpool lane sticker on 3/15 and my application was returned because I didn't fill in the vehicle license number. I did provide the VIN number. From previous postings it seems like most people are obtaining their stickers without having their license plates. Has anyone else had their application returned for not having the license number filled in? My application is time stamped 3/22 so I'm assuming that's the date they rejected it. The funny thing is the form they use to notify you that your application is incomplete doesn't have a box for missing vehicle license number. In fact, the box for missing $8 fee says to provide your license plate number OR your VIN number. Instead of waiting for my license plates to arrive I'm thinking I should just send in another application without the license number today.

I think the HOV stickers that I received were based on the first application + check that I mailed in on 2/8/06. I mailed the 2nd application + check in a panic after I received my plates but no stickers, thinking the DMV had lost my application but pocketed my $8 nonetheless. Still, it took about 6-7 weeks from the time I mailed my application + check to the day I received my stickers. Worst case, I wasted a mere $8 unneccessarily. Small price to pay to get to use the carpool lane solo! :D

It's been almost a month since they cashed my check.
I received my plates 2 days ago.
I called the DMV and they asked me to fax them a copy
of the cancelled check. I did. They said they'll investigate
and contact me in 72 hours with their findings.

I didn't know that the stickers were going to take
longer to get than the Prius!

    3/10 purchaed the car
    3/25 Sent in the application
    3/31 check cashed
    4/6 received stickers
    sticker number 55214

Less than two weeks after I received stickers. It seems that Northern Californians receive stickers a lot quicker than Southerners, or is it just my imagination? I still haven't receive the plates yet. Funny thing is, the certificate has my license number as 5Nxxyyy and that can't be. It must be a bogus license plate number as I am expecting my plate to be in 5Sxxyyy , or 5Txxyyy range.
