my wife snapped off the antenna on her car. It really is just the plastic piece that the antenna whip threads into. I thought about gluing it back together, but I'm wondering if I can get just that piece. The whip is fine.

try your local junk yard? I'd just super-glue it back.

It should work if it's glued back together. Mend any broken wires first however.

I finally figured out that the sharkfin screws into the broken part, so I need to get that fixed anyway. I'm still contemplating going with the oem part, but I can't tell if the plastic piece comes with the whip or with the assembly

It won't come with the whip, only with the whole assembly.

If you damaged the base below the whip and destroyed the electrical connections underneath, you will have to replace the circuit board or repair the broken connections.

That is an extensive repair, however, since it requires removal of the headliner from underneath and the wire lead all the way back to the dash control unit.

If you are lucky to not have damaged the electrical connections and the circuit board, but only cracked the housing, a "shark fin" antenna, if it works is a good idea. It will cover the broken base and seal and protect it from the weather.

Given the fragility of the antenna system to damage, a lot of Prius owners preempt the issue by installing the "shark fin" antenna early in the car's ownership.

I'm wondering if the shark fin wouldn't cause more damage than the whip though. Haven't had a chance to work on it yet

If you had damaged the antenna base you would have cracked the circuit board inside. The antenna base is expensive, but easy to change out.

not spending that much on a part for a different car, but thanks

does the forum allow you to list all of your cars? I have a 2006, 2010 and 2014. I think that just listing the 2006 is causing me problems
