You can change both the filters yourself for less than 40 bucks and 15 minutes total, if they really do need to be changed.

Seat belt and related items should have a specified warranty durration
Look at warranty manual book for the specifics.

Try on line Toyota dealers for the replacement part (Interent search OEM Toyota parts), if warranty doesn't cover it. There is also Steve at autobeyours.com, for salvaged Prius parts.

I would not install a used driver's seatbelt from a car that ended up in a salvage yard. That belt would have been stressed in any accident as you would expect the driver's seat to always be occupied any time the car is being driven...

Use only the correct new Toyota part.

Are you sure they didn't say "drive belt" is cracked?

A quick look at the picture of the service sheet shows that it is the drive belt, not the driver seat belt. Look at the section that says "under the hood".

Should have thought of that. Was wondering how you crack the seat belt? Maybe take a grinding wheel to it? That's some thick, sturdy metal.

MSRP on your drivers seat belt is $235.52. If we are talking about the buckle, $55.76, this would make more sense. $165.00 for a drive belt, which is on the expensive side if you ask me, sounds about right for a dealership.

if you take it in every 5000 miles, i would look back and se when they did the filters. the maintenance manual tells you what mileage to inspect/replace them at.

the filters are diy, even if you have no mechanical ability at all. they are so easy to change with no tools needed. it would be foolish to pay someone to change them.

A Phlips D4R on amazon runs $44 with free shipping. The driver's side can be changed in about 2 minutes. The passenger side takes about 10 to 15 minutes because you need to partially unbolt the fender and unbolt the headlight housing. There are vidoes on how to do this. I've done both sides once each since we bought our 2009 new. It should be a felony to quote such an outrageous price. Even if you had to replace the ballast, it would come nowhere near that.

A good quality cabin air filter on Amazon is $6.31 with free shipping. It literally takes about 60 seconds to change it. 20 seconds to remove the glove box, 20 seconds to pull the door and tray out and put the new filter in and slide it back in. And 20 seconds to put the glove box back on.

A decent engine air filter is $10 and takes no more than 30 seconds to change.

The serpentine belt is $13 on Amazon and there are videos all over youtube showing just how simple it is to do your self and takes less than 10 minutes.

For everything the dealer quoted, you can buy it all for less than $75 and do it all yourself in less than an hour rather than the $640 the dealer quoted you plus all of the travel time to and from which will cost you more than an hour and maybe even much more than that.

The filters and the drivers side headlight require no tools. The rest of it can be done with a basic ratchet kit.

Back to the original question, are these prices fair? I think the answer is YES! When I walk into dealerships, I see fancy drink machines, big televisions, and sometimes feel like I'm a fancy hotel or resort. All these amenities cost money. Where do you think this money comes from? I see estimates from dealerships all the time and these prices seem about the norm. With that said, my customers usually pay me half of that for the same work, however, if they need a latte as well, they have to head down the street for it. Also, my recommendations are sometimes a little different. For example, I now rarely change drive belts à la carte. Instead, usually recommend replacing them as part of the 100K mile service, which includes the engine water pump, drive belt, and coolant. Which reminds me about the number of dealer price quotes I have seen that had the water pump and drive belt quoted separately and with additional labor when you have to remove the belt in order to replace the water pump.
