Problem with "C" that it targeted young gen. Unfortunately it is an ill advice for someone under 25 to buy one. What you save in gas you pay twice in insurance. Old 2014 Mazda2 while getting miniscule MPG will cost cheaper over over 5 years, and more fun to drive. New 2016 will be much better on MPG, and cars like Chevy Spark and Mitsu Mirage are the champions in the group.

Older gen has kids, and thus likely to be on the market for bigger than "C vehicle".

"C" is manufactured in Japan and expensive. It is very expensive to fix. #20 on speeding ticket list. Insurance high.

Gen3 is an overall better car, and can be bought for a little more.

Gas prices are down, so are hybrid sales.

This is the most likely scenario. If you think the pitch for "C" was "lesser car with better fuel economy for less". With Gen4 hitting 60MPG, cheaper due to TGNA and production in US it would be "lesser car with worse fuel economy and not for less". And on top of that Yaris "C" is based on being discontinued.

Most likely North Am Toyota will take the same approach as Toyota of Europe took with Hybrid Yaris.

They will make "Moyota", Mazda-2 based replacement in which they drop in Prius "C" powertrain as an option. Cheaper, less overhead, more flexibility. And though Scion is fighting for it, it is probably still be called "Yaris". And for attracting young buyers lower insurance rates. On negative side it will probably have even less trunk space.

Now the question is if Mazda will put 2.0L in Mazda2, or if Toyota will get any (which?) Mazda SkyActiv engines. From what I read from Mazda Salamanca factory exec interview Toyota was planning to provide own sheet metal, interior, and eventually engines.

So in short there will be no Gen2 Prius C in NoAm. Very likely it will be discontinued as soon as Moyotas hit the showroom.

EDIT: btw is Moyota or Tazda?

I just bought my Prius C yesterday color Yellow. I called in 6 different dealerships and only 2 of them have ANY in stock. They seem to sell like hotcakes in California.

bought mine a week ago. also in yellow (nice color btw!). There were at least dozen 2014 in the stock.

IMHO it is more of the model distant than near future discussion. It is not going to be cancelled soon, but it may be discontinued at the end of the cycle.
