    Rubbish.

Are you in the UK or Australia? The UK spec RHD Prius is very capable of having the reversing beep disabled. How do I know? Because I have one and it was the first thing I insisted the dealers do when I collected the car. They didn't charge for it either.

But your idea is a more permanent solution I guess. o_O

With an odb adapter you can change the beeps on and off whenewere you want with Torque or Carista apps.

GC along with a few other posters here your driving a gen3 Prius, and posting in the gen2 section. Removing the beep on the gen2 in Europe is not available either by the finger dance or with Techstream.

Not in the rest of the world, only on the North American Continent. This is one of the reasons why it is a good idea to put your location in your avatar, and the year/model of Prius you are driving. There are many differences between the US Prius, and other countries, and the gen2 to gen3 versions. This is after all the gen2 section of PC. There is a separate section for the gen3.

Folks, let's keep this on topic of the reverse beeper and refrain from attacking others individually. This thread has been "moderated" accordingly, and will be closed should it fail to remain on topic.

If you hover you mouse over your screen name in the black bar at the top of the screen, a box opens with personal details in the left column, click on this and enter your details.

Took my car to the dealer, got it de-beepified, it's nice having a quiet car. :) The Toyota Corporate Legal Team can go suck a...(realizes that HTMLSpinnr is watching, abruptly cancels remark) :cautious:! Unfortunately they also deactivated the SKS function for the rear hatch, got to go back...

Just out of curiosity, how much did they charge you? For the Gen3 Prius, regardless of region, you can use Carista ($19.99) and a Bluetooth dongle ($10-ish) to change such settings yourself if you have an Android phone or tablet.

They quoted $80 over the phone, which I thought was steep, but I didn't really want to go out and buy strange new hardware and software and teach myself to use it on my new car, so I said yes. After the service they said it would be only $40.

I have none of these things. However I did go back to the dealer and actually came away even worse than when I went in. Now the passenger airbag is permanently off and the hatch beeps when open but does not recognize the SKS function.

This is all to disable the reverse beep? Which was set up as reminder to the driver, due to the return-to-center gear shift. That beep has been useful for me, once or twice. And I can think of more pressing problems. Why not save your ammo 'till you've got a wheel bearing going bad, lol.

I'm probably in the minority here, because I LOVE the persistent reverse beep -- no danger of forgetting and slamming into somebody or something behind me!

I wonder if using some heavy duty electrical tape over the hole will deaden the sound enough to hear my reversing mod? It would be quicker, less violent and reversible (excuse pun!).

So here's my question- is that beeper on the left hand side or right hand side on the left hand drive North American models?

I realize you can disable the back up beep, and most of the seatbelt beep. I have already done this. However, there are still 4 long beeps that happen if you start the car before putting your seatbelt on. I will be hunting down this beeper and silencing it. Any help you can provide in locating the beeper in a NA car is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi sorry, no idea about location on NA models, however, it should be easy to identify once the dash is removed, which has to come out as a whole unit.

Sorry if this upsets your blinkered craze to seek and destroy said beeper, but I offer you this additional info in the hopes that it helps.

I do not have the seat belt warning disabled and I do not get any beeps of any kind from the seat belt warning -- unless of course I do not fasten my seat belt. As long as my routine involves fastening my seat belt before I move off, I do not get any kind of beeps, annoying or otherwise. Even if I do forget (on the odd occasion) I will not get any beeps as long as I get the seat belt fastened before I have travelled 2-300 yds.

So my suggestion is to return the seat belt warning back to the default setting and enjoy annoyance free driving.

    hope this helps.

Except of course until you engage reverse and are subjected to incessant and needless beeping, which was the entire point of the thread... No really, look at the title of the thread. But since you raised the seat belt warning, don't bother with the convenience of putting anything on the passenger seat. Apparently a carton of eggs from the shop needs a seat belt :/

And to think that I've told people you can't go wrong buying a Prius, because it's not like a Honda Civic where these kids mod and rag them out... LOL Oh well, apparently they do after all... The last Prius I had, the prior owner had installed an amp (incorrectly) and changed the 12v battery terminals, made for a real nightmare when going to get a new 12v battery installed... I had a professional removed the amp and fix all the damaged wiring behind the radio... After hitting a deer a few weeks ago and having it repaired, I decided to sell it to the first person with cash... Full disclosure on the damage of course... at a very fair price. Now I'm the proud owner of a 100% stock, 2009 Prius II Touring! Love the bluetooth, JBL, and many other features my last car didn't have...

Thanks, been looking around for this process! Just got an '04 Prius (NA), and that damn beeping was driving me nuts. Glad I didn't have to break open the dash on this old thing.
