Sigma Automotive sells them for about $57 (plus shipping). Be sure to specify that you want one for the 2006 as it's a different size than the 2004-5.

Gee, if I had known this two months ago I would've gotten this instead of the Coastal. Ah well, such is life.

    galaxee,

Well, I have CAN-view. I have the stiffening plate, the side window shields, the Fumoto valve...

    I am definitely interested.

I am curious to know price and availability of the actual switch as well.

Also, is there a genuine concern about warranty issues here? Especially given that the car comes with the switch in the rest of the industrialized world?

you can get a switch through sigma automotive's website, they're a PC sponsor and so supporting them supports our community. the price is $57 as aaf709 said.

as far as warranty, this is very much a "do at your own risk" type situation. there's considerable debate about whether or not it voids the warranty, but there is no specific wording anywhere that anyone has found yet that expressly indicates it'll void the warranty. however, the way we have things rigged you're only causing non-removable evidence on the dimmer switch wire (two small cuts on the wire coating where the scotch-lok taps in) so if you have a problem and need to bring it in to the dealer you can remove the whole thing easily.

the only thing we don't supply is the switch/housing kit- and that's because we don't have the money to put up front ;)

i'm gonna bump this once just because we'll be making a few harnesses over the next few days. if anyone wants one afterward we can pull everything together but the plan is to make a few of them at once for now.

reply here or PM me if interested.

I would be interested in this pre-assembled harness for a 2006 model.
Can you clarify, will the EV switch be illuminated at night (controlled by the dimmer switch)?
Is the EV switch only available from Sigma Automotive, or can a comparable switch be purchased from my local Radio Shack?
Thanks for your help and great info.

Yes, the OEM switch will be illuminated whenever your headlights are on.

There are some other sources for the OEM EV button (Ebay for one), but Sigma's a site sponsor, reliable, and reasonably priced since they deal with all the importation hassles.

I'm not aware of any comparable button from Radio Shack...at least not one that looks OEM and is illuminated. That said, any simple momentary switch can be used to enable EV mode If you get the harness and either don't want or will have to wait for the OEM switch just grab one from RS and stick it on so you can use EV mode.

I'd like a switch too if you have enough parts to make one.

This is the wrong place to post a private sale, but just in case one of the people ordering a harness needs it, I have a factory EV switch (without the harness, but with some of the parts to create a harness) that I will be posting for sale soon, along with some other 3rd party Prius accessories.

I am interested too but the instructions and pictures are for 05. Are 06 any different other than size and pin connection?

    Thanks.

the 06 is essentially the same as far as dash disassembly. the only difference is the size of the pins we use and a couple minor things on the switch and housing. there might be a couple of clips moved around in the dash but probably not.

edit: i asked DH when he got home, and he actually just pulled an 06 dash apart... he said it was the same as the 05.

people here have already confirmed that the HV ECU connection is the same (the coastal mod works), and the illumination tap is done on the same color wire as in the 05 (from the EWDs). that's the crucial stuff.
