We have a Lexus ct200h, which is basically a fancy Prius ;). The audio system is amazing compared to the 2012 JBL Prius.

I have replaced all the door speakers with Polk Audio speakers in the Prius. I had replaced the squawkers with Polk DB351 speakers. While it was an improvement the sound still was muddy with way too much mid range for my ears.

I looked at the Lexus and it seems to not have squawkers for the upper front speakers, but it has nice tweeters. I found Infinity 1031t speakers at Amazon for about $40. They are very small but I am fortunate to have a 3d printer. I created a template based on the original squawker with a hole in the center for the 1031t which has a bolt out of the back for mounting.

I first tried it with the crossover and it was an improvement but not loud enough. I then hooked it directly up and WOW what an improvement. The Prius now sounds as good as the Lexus! Wish I would have done this in the first place!

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but you've now got tweeters being run with a full range signal? If that's the case then they won't last very long.

Pretty sure the 2012 already has a crossover as there wasn't a cap on the original squawker. I really doubt it is a concern and will post if it becomes an issue.

My 2012 has a capacitor. It isn't very big, and was attached to the connector.

In any event, I think the dash speaker is the most important speaker in the car.
I run full range speakers there.

For me the full range speaker that I previously tried had way to much mid range. Now I leave the mid range in the center of the graphic eq and it sounds great. I plan to double check to make sure there is a cap on the line. Pretty sure there was.

How is the speaker setup you listed above holding up for you? What Polk models to you add to your doors to go with Infinitys you added to the dash?

Still working perfectly almost a year later. Sounds amazing compared to before. The sound levels between sources is much improved now also. I used to have a huge perceived difference between HD-FM, Sirus and CD. Now they are much closer.

The door speakers were 6x9 that I got from Fry's. Not positive of the exact model number. I also added sound insulation to all four doors when I replaced the speakers.

Hated the stereo in the Prius prior to changing out the dash speakers with the Infinitys, even after upgraded all of the door speakers and the dash speaker with an Infinity 3.5" full range.

Very happy with it now. Sounds as good as the Lexus system now.

Thanks for the reply. Even without the model number, did you replace the door speakers with 6x9s that were full range? There aren't a lot of component 6x9 sized sets so one of the more-efficient models (2.7 ohm) of 6x9s, albeit full range, is what you went with. Sound correct?

You could add Infinity 9632 to the doors
