Headlight low beams failed during dinner

This is a new one for me. My wife and I pulled into a parking space at a restaurant after dark. The headlights were working fine and illuminating the car in front of me. I powered off and then, based on the wifely stare, shut the headlights off. We went in and ate. After dinner I came back to the car, started it and turned the headlights on and got nothing. No flash, just nothing. High beams were fine. Cycling the light switch made no difference. It is as if the low beam relay (I assume there is one) failed when the lights were turned off before getting out of the car.

The bulbs are halogen replacements that are about 4 months old, I replaced them both after one failed last fall. The original bulbs were OE and had lasted six years. We don't typically leave the lights on all the time. My wife, who is the primary driver, is finicky about such things.

Is there anything else I should look at other than trying to check fuses and locate a relay? Is it safe to assume that there is one fuse which supports both low and high beam? If not, then I could see a fuse take out both low beams.

I can do that. I checked and found there are four fuses, so the likely hood of two failing at the same time, or two bulbs failing at the same time is a possibility to check as you suggest. I found another thread here after posting which also suggests tapping the headlight dimming relay with the handle of a screwdriver, so I will try that too.
