Has anyone (other than me) forgot to turn off the car?

I've exited the car a few times, and found that the doors won't lock. Invariably, it's because I forgot to turn off the car.

Well, you can not lock the car with the remote !! as a safety feature .. but it will lock all doors HAPPILY with the little key!!!

I rarely dig out the fob to use the bush-button remote. I place a thumb on the door-handle to activate the door-lock. If the car's not shut off, all you hear is a beep, instead of the door locking.

Actually, I can lock/unlock the doors any time with the remote-starter fob. I use it when I want to lock the doors while leaving the car running. I've also used the "little key" on occasion as well.

"remote-starter fob" is that different from what comes with the car ??? because that remote CAN NOT lock the car if it is in Ready Mode ...

Yes, it's a Compustar 901, 2-way remote starter and security system, which uses an over-ride module to allow the car to start up without the driver being there with the factory fob.

Yes, one hour in ACC or ON position (On without hybrid system activated, so power button pressed without brake pedal pressed) and in Park, the car will turn off. The battery is only recharged when the hybrid system is on, so this is to prevent the battery to go discharge to much.
If you do this too often without starting the car, the battery will be discharged to a point that it can not start the car anymore. Found that out the hard way (was recording music from CD to the harddrive).

The ones you saw were probably remote start cars. My wife's chevy traverse has that. Keeps it running, warms it up, but of someone jumps in the car, they're not going anywhere.

Edit--oops, sorry for the dead thread revival.

That happened to me yesterday. I could swear I powered the car OFF, but the remote wouldn't lock the doors, and when I looked back, the DRLs were on. I just went o_O until I realized they only stay on if the car is on.

Just wait until you forget to turn it off and you forget to put it in PARK. I live in a Chicago suburb. We had a horrible winter. I was completely exhausted from moving so much snow. I moved my car out of the garage on to the driveway. I stopped the car. The ICE was off. I got out of the car and forgot to turn the car off and I did not put it in PARK. The car started rolling. It went out of my driveway and crossed the street, narrowly missing a parked car on the street and just perfectly rolled into the driveway across the street when a neighbor jumped in the car and stopped it. No damage to anything. That will leave a lasting impression.

I watched my partner do it the day we bought it and thought "wait, don't you have to put it into park first?" A very nice (and probably unintentional -correct me if I am wrong-) feature of the car, so now I am trying also to get into that habit, even though I am one of those people who listen to the radio…loud…so I *should* always know when the car is powered up.

I did a few days ago. I came out to see my headlights on after work, and figured the battery would be run down. But no, I had left the thing on all day. I think the car used less than a gallon of gas cycling on and off to keep those headlights on and the engine warm.

Yup... My mom did. Left the car running for almost 7 hrs. I happen to take a look outside the window before going to bed and noticed some lights on the dash (the car was reverse parked). Turned the car off, ask my mom about it, she told me that she did hear the car beep three times and thought that was "locking" sound.

Moral of the story, always look out the window before you go to sleep. (y):D
