Honestly, I have no idea. Pure clickbait.

But while you're here, please comment on my idea that PriusChat has an exceptional team of moderators whose work on improving the PC experience goes largely unthanked.

In fact I could go so far as to dispute my own suggestion - that PC is good because the members are 'good eggs' Perhaps it's just the mods keeping us more or less in line.

After we butter them up for a while, maybe a mod will tell us what it is like, and unfalsify the thread title.

With the occasional exception, this is one of the friendliest and most helpful forums I've ever been on, and the moderating seems to be done with a very light hand as it's rarely evident.
I'm sure having the Pancakes and Politics sections helps with this!

It is tough and thankless job and for that I commend them. I would also add though some matters may not have been handled perfectly. Oh well.

I also believe this forum is very well run. Is there a listing of the moderators to view somewhere?

Maybe most members are 'good eggs', but the mods certainly have put some effort into keeping the rest of us in line. I admit to having a warning of potential suspension, years ago during an outbreak of war with 'alien invaders' (a certain affinity group with many Prius haters) during which many bans, suspensions, and warnings were handed out. A few of my posts on contentious subjects have been edited, and others have been among thread portions, or whole threads, that were deleted.

I remember a number of other members coming back from suspension, and others suddenly disappearing for good. When I have to remember the exact spelling of their name, because the 'Search' function will not volunteer it as a suggestion, I take it as a sign of banishment.

I don't visit enough forums to know what constitutes "well run by mods." I do think the mods here allow more freedom in discussion than in other forums I visit. It's extraordinary, how far off from the OP we can be. Actually, I have never seen a mod do anything to keep people on topic. We can also be political and not be censored. I don't know if that is a good thing. It either means we self police well or the mods do their work so well as to go unnoticed.

i appreciate that they tolerate my foolishness, and edit/remove my objectionable posts without making a big deal of it. i contend that the love of alternative fuel vehicles trumps all, including my frequent poor behavior.

Considering the volume of traffic here, that's not a lot of moderators.

Nope but this is no ordinary car forum :)

Honestly, you guys are very well behaved compared to crap I see in other forums (flaming, trolling, name-calling, dissing, one-up-manship etc). I think it speaks well to the clientele of Prius owners. We come from all walks of life and are mostly able to get along online. It also helps that the older member base have met at Prius Connection Detroit in 2009 for the world premiere of the 2010 Prius. We hope to have the opportunity to meet newer members at TGB4 or local club events.

    Cheers,

    TP

I'm sure it's been way quieter since I was very quiet....

TBH, I rarely drive the Prius anymore. Rudy just sits in the carport, waiting. We are averaging 3 car trips a week. The rest of the time, I/we walk, take the bus, or ride our bikes. I walk to work. I rarely drop in here, but thought I'd just chime in and say that I have always LOVED the mods, and have hugged as many as I can (all of them?)... nope, I've missed Paradox, I think. He and I haven't done the same events, as I recall.

Oh Mod from the North, how could Detroit possibly have helped? Or are you just buttering up our benefactors? So meta.

I came on as a moderator and entered the 'Prius Expert' program right after the Detroit trip so I didn't have the pleasure of meeting you Rae Vynn, or all the others who were present there. Hopefully we can all get to do it again for a hopeful Gen IV or some other event. What fun we'd have I am sure, judging by Detroit stories I've heard, lol. :)

We've learned a lot over the last 11 or so years. At first, we wanted to make sure all threads were pure and on topic. We wanted to make sure all threads were Prius related. In other words, we were a little more heavy-handed. Not bullies, mind you, just uptight first-time parents.

Then we realized all conversations have a natural meandering effect and there's no stopping it. We also realized that as with all groups of friends, there are many other things to talk about besides what originally brought us all together. So we created "Fred's House of Pancakes" as a place for side-bar conversations. The concept was essentially a deli or sandwich joint where friends come in and talk current news, exchange vacation ideas, and essentially build on their friendships. Since International House of Pancakes was already trademarked and apparently Danny was too stingy to purchase the rights, we went with "Fred's".

Then, during an election year, things got heated so we created Fred's House of Politics where - on an opt-in basis - people can discuss/argue/insult/whatever. You might think the general forums are light-handed, but in FHoPol it's completely hands off.

Back in those days, we celebrated 1,000 registered members. Then 5,000 members some years later. It was easier to know all the "regulars". There were relatively few of us compared to today.

Tideland is right-on when he mentions that Prius drivers are, for the most part, generally a really good group of people. I always tell people that my overriding goal as a Moderator is to make sure Priuschat is a community in which my mom would be comfortable reading. Then, in fact, my in-laws bought a Prius as did my brother and then my neighbor. I had no problems suggesting that they visit the forums because I knew they would find nice people, good information, and practically no anger. And certainly no swearing.

As I write all this, I have to acknowledge that there have been times when we've needed to intervene. We really and honestly do not enjoy doing actual moderation things. You have to try really hard to get suspended or banned. When we move or edit a post, it's always with the intention of clean up or maintenance even if it's not immediately apparent.

I've enjoyed the friendships I've made on Priuschat. Some personal and some virtual. And I look forward to what the next generation of Prius will bring and hope to still be on PC for fifteen more years.

It's a wonderful forum, with wonderful moderators and wonderful contributors. I've learned so much and hopefully helped others as well, which is as it should be.

Did I mention it is wonderful?
