Winston Churchill said alcohol did more for me than alcohol took from me. (sardines or plain) The same with me. No credit did for me more than credit took from me.

Yes, and also fulfill any purported safety function for the brain-dead among us who don't realize they've shifted into Reverse, without torturing the rest of us with the constant alarmingly loud beeping.

If Toyota had their way, but they don't. (The government dictates to Toyota) They could ask you when you buy the Prius whether you want the beeps. If Toyota wants to know whether I want the reverse beeps, a back up camera, or no beeps I would choose beeps in my projected 2015 Prius. Unfortunately, the back up camera is standard. The most important thing for me is the bottom line on the contract. The British are even worst. You are not allowed to change any beeps. My opinion is the government is nit picking on ludicrous safety things because Toyota took away number one spot in vehicle sales from GM. It is easy for GM to win back number one spot, equal or surpass Toyota in reliability and quality. Using 6 year old oriented commercials will not do it. The people that buy Toyota vehicles are a lot more intelligent than the average vehicle buyer.

Personally, those are all of the groups I aim for, when I feel like backing over somebody. [IMG]

I see some really dumb things on the back of cars. No texting or baby on board. If you have to give advise on texting the person is probably brain dead. It doesn't matter if there is a baby or not on board you should do safe driving at all time, not only when a baby is on board.

There are two types of spending by people. One is the majority that spend to excess and the other minority that discipline themselves to buy only what they can afford. Although you might believe the people that discipline themselves not to spend are the culprits that want the economic world to cease to go around and all have to get off is not true. The reason it is not true is there are too few of them to make a difference in good times or bad. It is the the majority of people that spend to excess during good times and can pay what they owe that are the culprits. When bad times occur and people don't have the money to meet their obligations is when the disaster of stopping the economic world and all have to get off exists. It make the bad times twice as bad not only for the spendthrifts, but the discipline spender as well.

Shame on you PriusGuy32 these people are not bowling pins. You will never get to heaven to listen to Pat Boone and Frank Sinatra sing Amazing Grace!

There are too few of us dead beats to make any difference in good or bad times. The spend thrifts make an improvement in a good economy and make a bad economy worst.

I notice of late: everybody's using plastic, for even the most trivial purchases. Seems to take longer than cash, but maybe my imagination. Can't imagine the pages in their statement, except they probably waive the paper bill.

For me, that way of purchasing makes it way too easy to start down the rabbit hole of overspending. I like the old-school inhibition imposed, by having to dig out physical bills and coins. Kinda like the QWERTY keyboard: deliberately designed to slow you down.

In the US even some some Laundrys have a place for plastic to use on the machine. They do have a slot for the people that want to use cash. They use 24 quarters click clink clink .......

I've pretty much given up on any type of cash, and what little cash I do carry, generally lasts for months. In the general case (with some exceptions pf vendors using old technology), using plastic is faster than using cash. I generally cringe when I see the people in front of me in a check-out line start pulling out cash.. and especially when the change purse opens and they start counting out change.

2015 should be a huge year for merchants upgrading their equipment to "Chip & Pin" and NFC payment (ex: Apple Pay), since later this year (as I understand it), merchants not using chip & pin technology will be liable for any fraud that occurs on that credit card. Few merchants will want that liability.

We never pay finance charges... we pay our credit card bills in full each month... no exceptions.

Apple Pay is a huge advantage. The store never gets your credit card info at all. When you use Apple Pay, you connect directly (and securely) to the credit card company (ex: Visa) which downloads a "one time use" credit card number for use in the transaction. Hence, the merchant only gets a credit card number that is only good for that single transaction. If the merchant is hacked, your credit information remains private.

that's interesting, the more secure they can make transactions, the better off we all are. this problem with the irs giving refunds to criminals who have hacked someones info is ridiculous.
