    I would love to hear your experience if you have had the big battery guarantee honored.
    What was your cost? What was replaced by Toyota? How long did it take? Thanks.

    Quite a few on this site have had hybrid battery replaced under warranty.
    If you have valid claim (10-yrs 150k miles in CARB state) usually handled quickly and free of charge.
    Note that it has to fit Toyota rules (orig purchased, registered in CARB state, etc.).

    The more interesting cases are when the owner does not quite fully meet Toyota's rules (maybe a little over on miles, or car was from outside the state, etc) and those exception cases are a crap shoot to predict but sometimes covered 50-100% by Toyota.

    You need to give us your situation, but if it is a slam dunk CARB case, it should be covered and not sure but think its a quick job ( half to one day).

    If it's on your own nickel, you're going to need a few nickels. Job runs $3000-4000 with labor at a dealership for new battery. Cheaper options avail (rebuilt etc).

    your car needs to log a dtc before the dealer will replace the battery. bad behavior doesn't cut it for warranty.

    Toyota recently split the bill with us for traction battery replacement. We're in a CARB state (MD), and our 2004 Prius had 152K miles, and it was about 10 months out of warranty. The split on the $3700 plus job of replae battery and cooling fan clean out was that we paid out of pocket $750, they paid the rest. The saving fact they honored the warranty based on was that we had just purchased a 2015 Prius, and they saw us as loyal returning customers. The job took two work days to get done. The 2004 Prius runs really well once again, knock wood.

    Understand. THere is a lot of irony on our story. We would not have needed a new car but for the condition of the old car, but then the old car became like new. Luckily, our son is about to graduate colege and this will keep him from driving our new car, which is a good thing. He's a terrific young man but he smokes cigs and is a bit of a slob in his personal habits.

    By the way if you get Toyota on board for the replacement, make sure they take up the cost of cleaning the cllong fan and duct. That wa s a late development between us. I had to point to cooling fan related service bulletins from NHTSA to get them to pay up for that service, otherwise the dealer wanted to charge us $180.

    Did your son driving the Prius have anything to do with the failed battery? Young men sometimes hammer cars like they see at NASCAR. You are the only person to respond to me that has said they got a warranty battery. Guess not too many fail......?

    Perhaps you would be interested in the PriusChat Gen2 survey I conducted about a year ago;
    Hybrid Battery Survey-Gen2 Prius 2004-2009 | PriusChat

    Many users responded, many who had batteries replaced under warranty. On my survey, be sure to go towards the end where I wrap up summary and conclusions. Post #108

    Also UART has a battery survey. Basically we are trying to help you. Many Gen2 batts have been replaced, and it is a huge portion of traffic on PriusChat for Gen2. If you search on it you will find many many threads.

    In general, Consumer Reports says 3-5% of Gen2 batts have been replaced. But when we do a survey here we get much higher numbers, I think because one reason people log on here is battery issues.
