My Prius Plug-in 2012 with top-of-the-line Canadian Technology package (near identical to US Advanced package) costs a bit less to insure than our low end Yaris 2008 LE.

This is despite the fact that the Prius PiP is stated to the insurance company as being used as our commuter to/from work with much higher expected mileage than the Yaris.

Same, current policy, with same insurance options and deductibles. Both cars have liability, comprehensive, and collision (although I am considering cancelling the collision and comprehensive on the Yaris).

If we classified the Yaris as our commuter with the higher mileage, and put the PiP as the low mileage pleasure-trip-only car, its insurance would be even cheaper than it is now.

No, making that last payment on the financing is the cause. ;)
