Need new tires

    My 2012 Prius has close to 30K miles now, and the wear on the OE Goodyear Assurance tires is indicative that I need to replace them. I'd like to get something better than what I've got now. I have the 15" wheels, so 195/65R15. These are the priorities, in order of importance, for my with respect to tires:

    1. Braking
    2. Cornering/Handling
    3. Wet/Dry Traction
    4. Road Noise
    5. Fuel Economy
    6. Comfort
    7. Winter traction
    8. Tread life

    My Prius is going to get very good fuel economy no matter what tires I put on it, so I am prioritizing safety over economy. Based on this criteria and available information online, I had narrowed things down to either the Michelin Defender or Yokohama YK580. I was wondering whether these were actually good choices for my car and whether there is anything else I should be considering given what I am looking for. I appreciate any feedback you folks can provide. I am adding a poll to save people the trouble of a detailed response as well.

    Michelin Premier A/S would be my recommendation.

    I have 4500 miles on my set right now. Very quiet, great ride and phenomenal in the rain. Dry traction and cornering leave a little to be desired (compared to some other grand touring tires), but they're already a he## lot better than the factory tires. Fuel economy is probably within a single-digit percentage of the originals.

    Thanks for the suggestion. A friend also suggested these, but said his got loud. Do other people find these tires get loud as they wear?

    It's all relative. I find them to be very quiet (so far) compared to the other sets that I have used.

    nope, noisy like hell while new and 5+ MPG loss. this is on firsthand experience, i don't care what tirerack writes (they fooled me too).

    I almost go with that tire based on their review because I used to follow that at least for past years. Luckily I'm still searching for wheels. Thanks for sharing your experience, and sorry to hear that :(

    a lot of people who buy quiet tyres seem to complain that they get noisier with time.

    I live in Pittsburgh, so we get some snow. I bought a set of Bridgestone Blizzak tires for winter and don't have any issues getting around in snow or ice. And I recently bought a set of Yokohama avid ascend which seem to work well on dry or wet roads. My 2012 Prius V came with Blue Earth tire, which didn't work at all on snow. The Yokohama avid ascend might work on snow, but I haven't tried it.

    I have a set of the ''Premiers'' on my 2014 Prius with 21K miles on them,,,, never noticed them being ''noisy''. I liked them so well, I put a set on G/F's [ now wife ] 2012 ''v''. I will eventually get another set--or-- try the ''Energy Saver'' line. No complaints with the Premier though, looks like they are wearing well and mpg is good.
