    Hi Prius Chat

Earlier this week I was out driving my 2005 Prius on a road trip and got the red exclamation point (Master Warning Light), VSC warning and a smaller orange exclamation point. I had it towed to the nearest dealership (which is 99 miles away in Ontario, Oregon- just barely covered by AAA) and they pulled up the code P0A80 which means I need a new hybrid battery. The dealership quoted me $3700.

The car is registered in California (and has always been as far as I know). I am the second owner and purchased it 3 years ago from a Toyota dealership in California. So, I'm assuming I am covered by the CARB warranty of 150k miles and 10 years).

The in-service date on my 2005 Prius is March 8, 2005. Making the 10 yr warranty expired by (just under) two months. The car has 110k miles.

The dealership has contacted Toyota to get authorization to do work on the car and see if a goodwill warranty can be used. I am currently waiting to hear back from the dealership regarding Toyota's response-- they informed me it could take a few days because Toyota has "to do a lot of research".

Since I've had the car I always have it serviced (oil changes every 5k, trans fluid, throttle body, etc) at a Toyota dealership. I can't say if the owner before me has done the same.

My question is-- How likely do you think Toyota will pay to replace HV battery?

Also, from reading posts here $3700 seems like a high quote. The next nearest dealership is in Boise, Idaho. If Toyota does not offer any money towards repairs should I take it into another dealership and see what they would offer to replace the battery? And perhaps also have them contact Toyota and put a warranty claim in again?

Thank you kindly for your responses!

Dealership got back to me. The manager there said he spoke with Toyota and said there was nothing they could do for me. He suggested I call Toyota myself and put in a claim. Which is where I'm at now. Waiting for a response.

    Got an update:

After calling Toyota myself (1800-331-4331 option 5, option 5) and speaking with an agent regarding my warranty they decided to give me $2500 towards HV battery replacement. The dealership will install the battery at the warranty price of $2967. Which means I will pay $467 for a new battery! My CARB warranty expired about 2 months ago so this is fine with me.
