iPod Solution for all (iPod with dock connector)

    While we're all waiting for the XM Radio to be a reality in our Prius' (what is the plural of Prius anyway?) - I went looking for a solution so I could get line-out from my iPod (as opposed to the headphone jack) so I didn't have to deal with variable audio levels.

    Here's what I came up with. An added bonus is you end up with a power adapter that works everywhere, is fused, gives you a line out (which sounds really good to me) and can all fit easily inside the center console.

    You'll need:

    - An incase charger for iPod (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=TA351LL/B)
    - Belkin or high quality connection cable (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=TF367LL/A)

    -- and --

    - Ground loop isolator (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-zcd3i9UV8d2/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=127SNI135&i=127SNI135) [Thanks to other forum members for this tip!]

    This did the trick for me, and no more needing to mess with the volume level coming out of the headphone jack on the iPod.

    A warning about that charger-- I've had the audio output on three different ones die on me. The wiring that carries the audio through the cable is flimsy and badly attached to the dock connector. The charging still works, but the audio gets crackly, breaks up, or dies on one or both channels completely.

    For my (non-Prius) car, I got a Belkin Auto Kit that does the same job, but is much sturdier. The only downside is that the audio out isn't true, straight, honest-to-Bob line-level, but is adjustable through a volume dial. (Which is more useful in the case of a tape adapter.)
    Shorter cord, less versatile (the Incase charger has the AC charging, which the Belkin doesn't), but a heck of a lot sturdier.
