with a plethora of pads, shoes and rotors from the likes of Rock Auto... how is one to know what to purchase? Dealer price for pads start at $99.00. Thanks.

Look online. Lots of Toyota dealers sell online for a lot less than the retail counter. Some have free ground shipping if a $ minimum is met, barring weight and size restriction

Camelback Toyota inPhoenix, AZ has front pads for $72. Free ground shipping if order is $150+.

Internet search "OEM Toyota Parts" to find dealers who sell online.

OEM parts will fit, and no question as to quality. Aftermarket parts fit & quality is all over the place.

Sometimes, you can find good deals on ebay or amazon.

How often are you going to need to do this, and what's your level of risk aversion? Is it worth opening everything up, and then maybe finding out they don't quite fit, or are completely wrong part? I would just get the parts locally from a Toyota parts counter. Likely they'll get it right, and if there were any problems, they're local.

I'm with Mendel on this one, buy OE parts, especially for brake pads. (I get trade discount/for cost which helps me in my decisions)
