I qualify both ways. My 05 had 134.2 K miles when I bought it in Oct 10 and it just reached 234.2 K miles this week.

The next hurdle is 334K miles to be a two time member of the 200K mile club but since the odometer stops at 299,999 miles, I'll never be able to prove the car reached it.

2006 Prius - bought it new. Currently have 140,000 miles. At about 110,000 miles the Hybrid battery went bad and had to be replaced. Also had to replace some kind of converter having to do with the coolant system a few years before the battery went bad. I don't think the little battery ever had to be replaced. Weird - but I'm thinking they must have replaced it when they did the big battery. I have always kept up regular maintenance at the dealer. I did recently find myself driving with no oil (or very little - not really registering on the dip stick) in the car recently and remedied it immediately but don't know how long the condition existed; I figured out there was no oil when I kept getting a strange occasional warning light on turning - came to prius chat and the symptom pointed to the oil level and lo-an-behold I in fact had no oil in the car. No other big problems. And even though I had the battery problem - I still am very happy with this car. And strangely, my mpg has improved over the years. I now average about 54/55 mpg each tank. When I first got the car I was running about 50 mpg average. When they replaced the hybrid batter I think it went up at that point. Recently when I got new tires, I noticed it declined a little.

You didn't run it completely out of oil, just not enough to register on the dip stick. You probably had a quart and a half to two quarts in the engine. By cornering, the low thinned out remaining oil run to the side and the pump was sucking air. Not good for the engine but depending on how long the condition existed it was causing the engine to wear faster than normal. imo

    Hi All,

First post (hope it's in the right place) on this site after many years of reading Prius Chat for help, tips and advice so thanks to everyone!

This car, or prius as I like to refer to it ("it's not a car, it's a Prius") has been THE best in all my years of driving. As I stated in the title, it's now a little over ten years old (Gen 2, March 05, 108,000 current miles) and it still drives like new. With the Prius you do not get the little things that you would expect to happen with older cars like internal bits dropping off or ripped trims that you end up calling a character of the car. Sure, things have been replaced over the years but nothing like I would have expected.
    Replaced items include:
*Exhaust at 55K (at time of purchase I had the dealer replace it because it looked a bit rusty - but it would have been fine left on)
*Little 12V battery at 75K (after alarm started to randomly go off)
*Rear back springs at 95K (just do them both at the same time)
*Rear and front brakes 105K (first time replacements, WOW!)
    That's it.

So to all the people on the site who ask about the longevity of the Prius or question to buy a second hand Prius - I say go for it (from a Main Dealer). I brought second hand at 55K 4 years ago and have never looked back!! Stop worrying about the big battery, if it happens it happens but the money saved over the years will cover it and any other make of car this age may have stopped working by now anyway, or at least needed a major repair. When the time does come to replace the Prius, for whatever reason, I will be getting another Prius.

So, if you want a new car for ten years - buy a prius!

Anyone thought of starting a Ten plus years club for Gen 2?

I have a 2007 with 107,000. So far the dash has gone out and had to be replaced now the main battery lights are and that also has to be replaced. When one window is down, another has to be at least cracked or the vibration hurts your ears. Love the gas mileage thou.

No serious repair issues after 100k. Aside from routine maintenance, the spark plugs had to be replaced at 98K (!), the AC blower motor had to be replaced at 85k (which was a simple do-it-yourself job), I think the serpentine belt was replaced around 65k. Love this amazingly reliable car, would recommend to anyone.

I have a 2006, bought it new. Now it has 120,000 miles on it. Had to replace the 12 v battery last year. Had to replace a water-pump, brake pads front and back, and brake disk at the front. Had a tiny hole in the exhaust pipe near the rear damper, had it replaced with a stainless steel pipe. The rest is just normal maintenance, tires, windshield wipers etc. Average fuel consumption was 44.4 miles/gallon. It still drives like a new car.

Sho-Bud I see you are in Amsterdam, I live dichtbij in Amstelveen!

The odo in my recently bought 2007 Prius is showing 206,xxx km so around 127,000 miles. It came with a odo history sheet so if I remember I'll take a closer look at that and post up when it his 162,000km / 100,000 miles. For a car with that mileage on, it sure feels young. Aside from a slight creak when going over a ramp unevenly (by this I mean the two front wheels don't pass the ramp at the same time) which I am assuming is anti roll bar bushes, there is nothing wrong with it. No knocks/bumps/rattles/broken stuff.

    June 2006 Gen II - 140,000 miles
Replaced: 12V battery once, part of exhaust system, spark plugs (dealer recommended at 120k but not because of any problem), front brake (rotors and pads) twice because of rust, and did all the recalls (steeling link, coolant pump, etc). Conventional headlamps have been replaced twice, and a couple of marker light lamps have gone out.
General impression is that this is a fantastic car. Biggest gripes are the brake rotors rusting and the vague steering feel. My wife has trouble keeping this car on the road because she tends to rely on steering wheel feedback, which is nearly absent. I feel that the numb steering response causes greater driver fatigue.

Minor gripe is that the A/C can't be set lower than 65F under heating conditions. When you are dressed for outdoor activities, it's nice to set the temp lower in the winter. Another is that the passenger airbag warning light sometimes indicates the system is off when there is a passenger in the seat, and other times the car complains that the belt isn't buckled when the only passenger is a shopping bag.

We've looked at the Gen III V, but can't justify giving up what has been such a reliable Gen II vehicle. Will stick with this one until it starts to get expensive to keep on the road. Even if the traction battery were to fail at this point, it might make sense to replace it and keep going.

With mini-vci you can set temperature shift into cabin temperature. In my (European version) you can only get it down to 16c. But if I set temperature shift to -2c you can get it to 14c. But still if I have car full of people and fan needs to run at pretty high speed it could be lower.

Bought my 2008 in November of 2012. It's a Touring model with the 16 inch tires and it has been my trusty companion for nearly 25k miles. It had 76k miles when purchased and has 101k miles today. Likely the best car I've had. It gets about 45 mpg on average. The first owner at least had records for changing oil, but not much else had been done. The cabin filter was in sad shape and the air filter wasn't much better so these were changed out along with new cvt fluid by me soon after purchase. Found out there were a couple recalls on the car so I went to the dealership where a new inverter pump was put on and a new bolt to the steering shaft was installed at 81k miles. At 86k miles a new serpentine best was put on as it was cracked and just plain old. When the car was at the dealership, I got a printout of any items that needed attention and the mass air flow sensor and throttle body were mentioned as needing attention so I did this at 86k with the help of tutorials widely available. Easy to do and it saved some money! At 100k, took it in for the ice and inverter coolant fluid change and the water pump was diagnosed with a small leak so this was done. Almost forgot, the original 12v battery went out a year after I bought the car and I replaced it with an Optima yellow top, again using you tube videos.
In summary, this has been a great car with little downside. Maintenance is pretty minimal and if you don't mind using a wrench yourself, this car is cheap to keep! Mine is pretty quiet inside at speed and the speakers on my model (package 6) are wonderful to listen to! Seat comfort isn't great for long rides but it's adequate for my 25 minute commute most days. I plan to have the dealer put in a traction battery it that happens as I feel the other parts of the car will easily last for the long run. I've saved enough in gas already to pay for this scenario...Thanks to all the other posters as it's been interesting reading!!

I bought my 2009 Prius second-hand from Fitzgerald Toyota Rockville, MD (Fitzgerald Auto Mall - New and Used Cars, locations in FL, MD and PA) in October of 2010. Prior to purchasing it was a dealer loaner vehicle. At the time I had accepted a new job that was 130 miles round trip away from my house. My current car was a 1999 Dodge Intrepid. I loved that car, it was like a sofa on wheels! I had modded it a lot adding in parts from other year model intrepids to keep modern. Most people who saw it were shocked to find out that it was over 10 years old! It was paid for, but my long commute really used a lot of gas, I always knew that the Prius was the answer, I just thought I could never afford one. I started doing my research and looking at various toyota dealerships. I found my Prius using the Toyota certified website. As soon as I arrived at the dealership I knew I had to upgrade to a fuel sipping Prius. I was amazed at how quiet it was, and loved how the engine shut off when I was stopped at a red light. The Prius has been a blessing to my life and I will never buy anything else. I am a loyal Prius customer -- Unless I some how won the lottery. Then I'd by a hybrid-Porsche. but short of that, I'm loyal to the Prius. My goal is to keep my 2009 as long as I can, I'm shooting for 500,000 miles.

Hello! I haven't been on the forums for quite a long time! I bought my 2008 Prius in May of 2008. I just had it in for the 115,000 mile service. I actually have 115,500 miles on it. I get an average of 46 mpg. I never drive with the windows down. I've had no problems at all. I get it serviced every 5,000 miles and get the tires balanced and aligned according to the tire warranty. I love my car! My husband still will only drive it under duress.
