Hm. I think I recognize that letter. That's the letter that one got after the warranty was extended. Long before that letter appeared, you should have gotten a no-kidding, it's the end of the world recall letter, as in, "Bring your car in, now!". One second, I want to check something.

Funny. I have a login on Toyota.com's owners' site. It's not such a bad place, you can put in your maintenance history and download $RANDOM documents and the standard user's manual for your car. If memory serves, they also have a listing of all the recalls ever made on your car. If I'm not mistaken, you should have at least one, the one for the inverter. Note that this is not a warranty extension, it's a "come on down" document. Unfortunately, the web site is down at the moment for maintenance. I would strongly suggest that you go there, create an account, get your car's VIN number in there, and it'll tell you what maintenance has been performed and what recalls apply to you.

In any case, here's the DOT record on the Prius inverter recall. If you look in the bottom right of that web page there's a button to list a bunch of documents, at least a couple of which are recall letters to owners.

I just looked: There's a document to dealers which does list the range of VIN numbers that are subject to the recall. There's a bunch of 2011 VINs in there, you should check if your car is in the list. (Note that this dealer document has some verbiage if a $RANDOM owner comes in asking for the update - it says call Toyota in that case to make sure.)

Check the online Toyota customer account, once you've created it; then you'll know if your car is truly subject to this, at least according to Toyota's lights.

You all have been wonderful with all this. You knew more than Toyota of Gastonia did about my car and you were the reason that they finally found the problem. I appreciate all your quick responses and input. Thank you so much!!

jeje, they claim they have a short on the harness to plug a21 on pin 21 to grown, they claim that this is not covered under the waranty since they think roddens might have gotten in car and shew the wires in car. but they say they cant see it or any indication of roddens

my car never got the recal on the inverter isue yet, not sure if this is related

Not sure if the inverter recall applies to the Prius v. Good luck with the wiring issue, maybe contact Toyota directly, see if you can get it made a warranty item.

Ok, your info says v btw: yeah you should be in the inverter recall. Verify with dealership. Or another dealership, one more on the ball?

If you are going to Toyota of Gastonia...run!! It sounds like the inverter issue problem that I had. Good luck! I called Toyota Customer Service three times and got nowhere.

thank you so much RRxing for the diagram.
it took 3 or more days fo dealer to come up with the idea that i had an open wire to inverter.
service advisor had assured me that they found an open on plug a29 pin 21.
i asked them if they confirmed by testing the actual wire and what i got was a yes but too many wires to actually find the part of wire with the open. i say poor troubleshooting on their part. i asked them "ok if you know and have tested both end of wire that is open, than before you try and swap harness confirm this by running a jumper wire from ecu to inverter" since its only one wire.
after this conversation they say no we didnt get to the wire but thats what we get from the diagnostic code and to get into the repair its out of warranty and thats why the 4000 dollar bill.
the dealer tells me rodden might have caused an open on the wire to inverter from the ecu but they cant see any damage to wires.
the code from the car is p3004 and seems to be related to the inverter going bad.
im going back and for with toyota.
i pulled the car out of that dealer since i now have no confidence on them.
dealer insist on 4000 dollars to fix it out of pocket for a problem they not even sure of.
it looks like i have a relay to coming out of that harness that could be an issue.
car is in ny and im in r.i and cant even get to it.

I just experienced this same inverter failure Saturday night. Of course the service dept. was closed Sunday and Memorial Day, so I'm just beginning to get answers. 2010 just went limp and only allowed EV to get me off the road. Had it towed in. Dealer (Pappas Toyota) diagnosed the inverter and is waiting for confirmation from Toyota. I'll know tomorrow what my fate is. Hopefully it's the inverter and thus covered by this extended warranty...

How many miles on the odometer? And were you in the inverter recall, did you have it done?

I'm just curious, if inverters are still failing, post-recall.

    Question.
Are all gen III prius's subject to the recall.
My wife's 2012 just had a major malfunction, but her vin # is not in the recall numbers

i still have the p3004-800 code on my prius. after dealing with toyota they insist on changing the harness to the inverter.
is there a way to put the gen 3 prius on a limp mode to drive it without the hybrid system?
i have to move the car out of the driveway and someone mentioned that there's a emergency mode i could put the car in.
i tried searching and cant find it
