Hey guys, I'm going to be getting a new stereo, something like this.

I've browsed around and seen some forums say you need a harness and maybe some other wires, but nothing seems to be consistent. I have a Gen II 2006, no nav but with Bluetooth model.

I'm not worried about taking the dash apart, or even the wiring, just need to know what I need.

Can you guys help me out?

need a metra axxess to keep your steering wheel button functions, and a pac tato, since you got jbl (which kinda sucks). checkout crutchfield.com and they can hook you up with everything you need, including the scosche bezel to make it look clean.

Thanks for the reply, is this the bezel I'm looking for? Doesn't seem like the right size, but I can't find anymore specific for the prius. I also tried finding the axxess, but when I searched for the prius it just brought me back to the homepage. I found the pac tato no problem, sucks that it's so pricey for essentially an amp.

Actually I think this is it, did you get yours from the site or somewhere else? Seems like a large quantity distributer.

The metro site I linked is their wholesale main link. Use it to help with information and research. Call them for additional and to direct you to an on-site or local distributor.

there is a newer bezel, which crutchfield has. the one you saw might be correct, but its for a single din size head unit. I'd go for a 2 din touch screen, which I had in my '04 non jbl.

Okay so before I start ordering this is what I'll need:

    Bezel/ac and aux harness (its 1 and 2 din): Scosche TA2103B - 2003-up Toyota Prius Double Din/DIN with Pocket - Walmart.com

    PAC

    And Axxess:

Seems like a lot of extra money on top of my new stereo ):

yeah it sucks that Toyota used this oddball crappy jbl system. they could have done better for less.

Well, it was made 2004-8 or whatever the years are, and it will always be generic companies. I remember seeing JBL be the mainstream audio for cars during that time I believe. I personally don't mind it, but then again I don't know much of a difference with JBL and other systems.

Anyways, it's all ordered and will be here on Wednesday, I'll probably have it done on Thursday unless I can't figure out how to plug one plug into another.

FWIW here's what I found for an 08 the JBL upgrade gives you front and rear 2 6.5" component setup.. I find the oem deck and amplifier aren't terribly bad on the JBL and it has 2 6.5" component sets which is pretty easy to get good speakers into, its everything else which is terrible. The speakers and crossovers are not good at all.

It's in this order of worst offenders: 1) Unplug center channel 2) upgrade tweeters and speakers all around, do not use any stock speakers at all, rear will need a new crossover, I use individual high and low pass on the front as well to control the signals to the speakers 3) seal doors and place speaker on top of "dynamat ring". Do this and you can play at 60 without many artifacts in the sound with felt clean midbass.

I use infinity Kappa Upfront and B&W's from an XKR (that had dynaudio put in) in the rear.

where do you get replacement 2 and 3 ohm woofers? a 4 ohm replacement woofer at least on paper won't be as loud as the oem 2 ohm front and 3 ohm rear. perhaps the JBL speakers aren't very efficient? if I can find a 2 ohm woofer with really good specs I'd be tempted to get it and shoe horn it in. but I'm not impressed with the JBL eq curve either, it rolls off all the best bass notes below 40 hz. i want to hear the low B fundamental when its hit. and they should have put an aux port on the head unit too.

    Infinity, B&W
Infinity (kappa, and reference), B&W and Dynaudio all make 6.5" components that fit and will run @ 2 ohms, they just market-speak them differently. I think JBL aftermarket is also at 2 ohm.

I haven't seen any 2 ohm components. I'd like to hear from somebody that has upgraded their JBL speakers and didn't lose volume. and most of the component speakers roll off the lowest notes too. low B is like 30.87 hz. even the manufacturers don't claim to go that low. I had 7" woofers in the '04 and they worked great with the kenwood. but I have no confidence in the JBL amp to drive them. I am tempted to shoe-horn some 8" subs into the rear doors, but I'm afraid it would still suck.
