The rear view mirror on my Prius is sagging. It looks like it's attached to the windshield at the bottom of the rail that it's on, but it's not attached at the top and is sagging off. It's really annoying because it bounces around like crazy on rough roads, and it sags enough to put it completely out of adjustment. To use it, I have to push up on the mounting rail at the top with my finger to get it aligned temporarily.

I know it's hard to describe so here's a picture. This is the top of the mounting rail and the front of the headliner. As you can see there is nothing attaching the rail to the headliner, and the rail is separated from the windshield (hard to see because of all the black there, but it is hanging down by about 1/8 of an inch). What's supposed to keep it there? Glue? Or is there a piece missing that would attach it to the headliner?

Sagging and loose rear end.. Sounds like my wife. Rim shot please. Lol
ok so it sticks to the window 1 part baths also the front part moves back and forth to stabilize the mirror make sure that it's all the way open which is forward and hopefully that solves your problem

Take it to Toyota, they'll look at it for free.
If there are parts missing, they'll tell you.
    What year car is it?

    It's a 2012.

Matt, I took your advice and I did slide the front of the rail up so that it makes contact with the headliner but it's still loose... nothing clicked into place like I expected would happen.

My rear view mirror was rattling, too. Tighten the hex bolts fixed the problem. Not sure if yours has the same issue.

There's a Torx style screw, near the front-of-car end. Maybe that's come loose?

You can actually pull that black piece (wire cover) completely off, it just slides forward and backwards. The other black piece which the one in the picture slides over snaps into place near the mirror. There is nothing missing and no glue to hold the piece in the picture into place.

You might try to pop it off and put it back on and see if that helps. Mine slides down occasionally and rattles with the music. I just snug it back up to the headliner and it's fine. But you could try a small piece of velcro on those tips that slide into the headliner to hold it in place better.

Alternatively, you could use something very small (even a small folded piece of black paper) as a wedge between where the piece in the picture slides over the other black piece, so it won't slide down easily. But if is snugged up into the headliner and still bouncing around the wedge won't help with that very much and the velcro would probably be better.

    Good luck

I had exactly the same issue. I was able to fix it by tightening the screw at the front end of the fixture. You’ll need a Torx T-20 screwdriver. Then I used two small pieces of double stick tape to affix the wire channel top tabs to the windshield to keep it from sliding down again. The only purpose of the channel is to hide the wires from view.

I have had loose mirror issues in nearly all my prius's. Tightening the torx screw has always fixed my mirror issues

Most rear view mirrors I have seen have a metal plate that is glued to the windshield. The plate has tracks down the sides for the mirror to slide down and a dimple for a set screw to lock it down. I have not seen how my Prius is done but I would expect the same process. Sounds like the setscrew is loose like others have suggested.
