    For safety reasons I like to know where my keys are at all times and have them close at hand. When you have to futz around in your purse trying to find them then you aren't really alert to what's going on around you. I just find it good practice to keep them in my hand when not driving, and that's easiest done putting them in and out of a specific key holder. Sure shelf works (assuming they don't come flying off) or cup holder which is already taken up by phone and glasses now that side storage bin is gone... I just liked having a space specifically and only for a key, keeping them secure and handy.

    can't blame you, we all have our idiosyncrasies. sounds like the gen III is really not for you. perhaps you can find another 2009 with lower miles?

    On the gen 3 just in front of the Centre glove box is a perfect little nitch for your fob. H

    i do not know, in a frontal crash with airbags deploying, that thing could become a scud missile.

    I'm getting used to it. My biggest concern is the battery vent being covered (why move it down to where things left on the seat could readily block it, up high that couldn't happen!) and I think so long as I keep an eye on it it should be ok

    it must have been the only route around the new battery, or perhaps they wanted to pick up the cooler air from the floor.

    Been over a year since either car has had a wash. A clean car does nothing for me. I clean the car when dirt is caked on so much that I accidentally dirty my clothes when I walk around it in the garage. I just shake my head when I pass by car washes and see the long lines. Since washing cars is banned, I wonder if car washes are raking it in.

    It might not be AS effective, but could you drill holes into the cover to the spare tire well and insert vent grates? It would keep items from falling in but allow air to circulate.

    The last time I looked at the battery air system (which to be fair was a gen II, not a III) it all ran inside a series of tubes. Just ventilating the various cover panels would have had no effect. I suspect a III is the same.
