Prius shifting problem

    2008 Prius(130K) miles sometimes will not shift from Park to either D or R but will only go to N. The emergency brake light is on when this happens (brake not on). Usually after shutting down and restarting it clears and works correctly. any history of this

    check to make sure your 12v battery is in good health. Meaning the voltage reading should be above 12.5volts

    does it normally shift to d without foot on brake?

    then it might be your 12 volt. put a volt meter on the jump point under the hood in the morning before turning on the car.

    I'd measure the battery right away cause if its dying, you want to hit the parts store (if they even stock a prius battery) before it closes. but don't assume the battery is ok if your initial measurement seems ok. you need to load test the battery to be sure. but if it reading like 10 volts, replace it asap.
