    Greetings all:

I'm a first time owner who has been lurking around the Forums since I took delivery of my 2013 Prius v Five/Technology Package, about a year and a half ago. I have learned a lot, and and am grateful to all of you for the massive amount of useful information I have discovered. I now have a question regarding window tint material that appears to be unique as I can find no previous discussion or thread.

I live in Colorado and spend a lot of time in the mountains above 10,000 feet during the summer. At that altitude, the heat and UV radiation are brutal, and very uncomfortable for the occupants of the vehicle. As a solution, I researched available tint packages and decided upon a rather expensive, but effective ceramic tint installed and warrantied by a local shop. Everything was fine until I brought the car into the shop for the installation. At that time, I was advised that tinting the moon roof would not be possible because it is plexiglass, and cannot be guaranteed because of continual gas emissions which would, over time, bubble and degrade the tint material.

The shop had no solution for the moon roof, which is disappointing because the visual experience of driving in the mountains is degraded because no one can stand the heat and UV for very long with the roof shades open.
I would really like to locate a tint material that would block a majority of the emissions and also be compatible with the plexiglass. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Be aware that the ceramic tint has metallic content which can interfere with the operation of the smart key system, cell phones and the like.
As for the moon roof, your tint man is right: leave it alone.

I have Formula One ceramic tint on both cars, and they are specifically marketed as not interfering with radio signals, etc.

Whereas, traditional metallic film is supposedly inferior in that regard.

Both moonroof and side windows are UV -protecting from factory. The side windows are tinted ( not with the film, but glass has a slight color in it) from factory at 78% VLT, at least in my 2010 IV

The the ceramic tint I selected is specifically manufactured and marketed to not interfere with vehicle electronics in any way.

I am aware of this issue. The ceramic tint I selected is specifically manufactured and marketed to not interfere with the vehicle electronics. So far, so good.
My problem is with the moon roof which is unusable at altitude during the summer.

Leave the roof shade closed? ;)
