listen to Patrick. a couple oz of extra oil will hurt nothing and cause no problems except worry wart syndrome. its fine. but if it bothers you, next time diy and you can set the oil level perfect.

Look at the Dealer's service report. These are usually computer produced and should indicate exactly how much is being used. It should show the amount specified in your owner's guide. Since the bulk oil dispensing system at most dealers is computer controlled they should not be over filling the engine. If you specify an oil that is delivered out of cans then you will be over filled as they will use all of the 4 qts. In the cans.

At one time there was concern about throttle body contamination due to constant over filling but I'm not sure if it is still the case. I've always used the bulk oil included in the dealer service package.

the problem seems more like toyota's spec is too high.

I guess it's possible the Toyota spec is too high but one would have thought they would have corrected it after 10 years.

I do know that I had to "hammer" the dealer in the early days to get the right fill. After having to put my car back on the rack to drain some oil out they finally got their dispensing computer set correctly.
