30k service question

    I have a 2013 Prius v with 27,500 miles on it. I have had it serviced at the recommended intervals, the most recent at 25k, and with oil changes at 10k and 20k. When the odometer is around 28k, I'll be leaving on a long road trip (with a lot of driving in the mountains), and by the time I'm done with the trip I estimate the odometer to be at 31k. So I'm wondering if I should get the 30k service before or after the trip. Will it really make any difference in terms of not having any potential mechanical issues during the trip?

    I have a 2013 with same same mileage. I had the 30,000 mile service done at 27,600. I'm doing a 2,000 trip to Florida and back. I could have waited but the dealer had a $59 oil change and tire rotation vacation special. Moving the service up a little certainly won't hurt anything and it gives me some peace of mind that everything has been checked. I still double check after the service to be sure it was done properly.
    If you don't know your way around under the hood, it is not a bad idea to have the dealer check the fluid levels before a long trip. Mechanical issues could be avoided.

    The dealer is still putting 5,000 oil change reminder stickers on my windshield. They are persistent. Always trying to extract more money from the customer.

    I'd personally do it before. It's just an oil change.

    It's 30,000 miles OR 30 months, whichever comes first, FWIW.

    One thing, I would never take back a car from the service department, and take off on a lengthy trip the day after. A few days leeway is good, in case something shakes out.

    Since the key service is the 10k oil change you could go in early with only 8k on the current oil but then your 40k oil change will likely have 12k on it. With a change when you come back, the current oil would have 11k miles. Given that some manufacturers allow 15k between changes you will be ok either way. I would wait, change the oil when you get back, but don't forget. As one response indicated, just be sure your levels are good and not low.
