    jma -

My cash was pre-approved with no proble. :) The only way this deal happened wa through Costco. Everybody else pays MSRP. It is Hanlees Toyota in Davis, and I dealt with the sales manager (who handed it off to somebody else, but you have to start there with the Costco program).

I'm from another Bay Area - Tampa Bay.
I ordered my Prius from a dealer in Palm Beach, FL because everyone else in our Bay Area wanted to charge me 2,500 to 5,000 over MSRP. Our dealership did not charge any markup over MSRP. And no other charges like dealer prep, doc fees, etc.

I paid 23,850 including Tax, etc., for a package #3 Black. No Toyo guard, or mat charges (they threw the mats in for free). My sales rep was great. He said they sell to many people in California (they ship the car for around 1,800, which is still a good deal if you were going to pay 3-5k over MSRP). They got the car for me within 10 days. Apparently they get a huge allotment from Toyota because they sell so many. Let me know if you want the sales rep's contact info.

ps. I just got the car 2/6/06. I love it!

I just got a call from capitol toyota and will go for a test drive tomorrow. They have a new graduate promo of $400 rebate that I can take advantage of, plus the costco discount, free parking at any metered parking! WOW!!!!!!

I am so ready to get my car but I am still waiting for my sister to get the financing. I should just pay cash but then I need to close my bank account after that! :)

Tracy Toyota just emailed me to say that they have 8 white #3 priuses available because of a fleet deal that fell through. So anyone who wants a white prius can contact them now. ;)

I finally picked up my Prius from Berkeley Toyota today. I paid MSRP, no mark up (total, with CA registration was at 26K; package #3 with VIP security and all weather mats). I'm somewhat of a unique case, because I didn't need the car right away, but I knew that I wanted a silver 2006 Prius.

David Burrill was my dealer, and he's top notch. I think he's been promoted, so I'm not sure if he'll be selling cars anymore. I hope he does. The guy is so honest - he even discourages you from buying worthless add-ons if he thinks it's a rip off. You gotta wonder if that makes him a good salesman, but when we walked in the Toyota dealership the first time, he was their top salesman. I guess honesty pays off.

I also like that he's friendly, clever, and he does his research. He can answer pretty much any question you throw at him about the car, from random to technical. Supposedly he's only worked at the Berkeley Toyota dealership for about 2 years, which is pretty impressive. The only problem I had with him is that he's pretty hard to catch when you call him because he's always busy selling cars I guess. I probably chatted as much with his answering machine as I did with him, but he also calls you back pretty quickly.

I started shopping for the 2006 Prius before the model came out - in August 2005, to be precise. My fiancee and I went dealership hopping, and frankly, we could've chosen any dealership, but Berkeley Toyota was the one we felt the most comfortable with (Oakland was the shadiest - it took us half an hour to finally get a quote from them, and they tried to mark up $5000 above MSRP. Their habit of joining you in the back seat of the car as you play with the display model is also way too aggressive and intrusive for my taste).

So we signed up for a 2006 silver prius in August 2005, and we picked up the car today. We picked the most basic option, and no leather seats - David warned us that this will delay our delivery a bit, and he was right, but time wasn't really an issue for us anyway. When we picked up the car, we met another couple who signed up ($500 deposit required) in January for a silver prius, but had to opt for a white one instead. The average wait time is around 6 months I hear. I guess if you want your prius sooner, you might need to compromise your choices.

A 2005 Silver Prius was actually available and offered to me in December 2005. I declined, because I knew that I wanted the 2006 model (and again, time wasn't really an issue for me), and I'm so glad that I passed that offer. I totally love the back-up camera (I hate parking) and I'm looking forward to using the MP3 player function. My fiancee is 6'4", and he swears that the 2006 model has more headroom than 2005. He fits in comfortably. I'm already addicted to my MPG display. I see myself driving slower (hmmm).

i paid MSRP last july at Walnut Creek Toyota. Walked in on a Friday asking to be put on a wait list, sales guy said "what color/package do you want, we might have one in stock for you." I said Silver, Blue, or Grey, package 6 (2005), he said I have one for you now. I came back the next day and drove it home. No problems, with AGPRIUS now, 28k miles later.

Ordered: September 29th, 2004 (with $500 deposit), Picked up 11/10/2004. Originally told I would get it in February/March time frame. Very pleased to have gotten it quicker due to someone passing on it.
Price Paid: ~$29,000 (exact figures at home), which includes MSRP of $26,666 + tax, title and doc fees. No dealer markup, no distributor fees, no advertising fees, no worthless options forced on me. I only paid for what I wanted (a package #6 at MSRP, plus the floor mats at MSRP).
Dealership: Melody Toyota in San Bruno.
