Yes I definitely appreciate it! You guys have given me hope! I know that she had the model with the solar panel on the top that would run the fans when it gets to hot I believe was the purpose of it. It also had GPS which I believe does not come standard and some other things as well. She mentioned to me she paid around 30k when it came to the end. So I wouldn't doubt there would be some sort of tracking system on it. Only hope the thieves did not disable it by now.

LOL so you want everyone and their dog to try to fix a problem she caused? and that my friends is the problem with America today, no personal responsibility....
she didn't send a check she does not get paid end of story..
but lets bother everyone else to fix her problem..just like its the guns fault when a kid plays with it and kills someone..

((Shaking my head and going in the pool, if I didn't know how to swim and drown is it the pools fault or the realtor that sold me the house?))

yes, i believe there should be a grace period for senior moments. i don't work for insurance companies, and believe them to be one of the 'necessary evils'.

all they do is take, take, take. when it's time to pony up, they have every excuse and a team of powerful lawyers to deny justice to the poor.

While I'm an advocate that people should take responsibility for their mistakes I believe that car insurance companies should give people time before directly canceling their policy.

In most parts of America and especially here in Florida it is an absolute need to have a car. Public transportation is rare to non existent. And sometimes people are just caught up with so many things or other bills that they may have to miss a payment. And since it is illigeal here to drive without insurance then you are stuck at home. Un able to go to work and get the money to pay the insurance. So same with electricity, water and cell phone which If I'm not mistaken they don't cut you off right away and give you some time because it is a need that people mostly can't live without.

Here's the Florida statute on auto insurance cancellation:
    Statutes & Constitution
    :View Statutes
    :

    Online Sunshine

    My emphasis:

"(3)(a) No notice of cancellation of a policy to which this section applies shall be effective unless mailed or delivered by the insurer to the first-named insured and to the first-named insured’s insurance agent at least 45 days prior to the effective date of cancellation, except that, when cancellation is for nonpayment of premium, at least 10 days’ notice of cancellation accompanied by the reason therefor shall be given. No notice of cancellation of a policy to which this section applies shall be effective unless the reason or reasons for cancellation accompany the notice of cancellation."

Then the letter must have come the next day after leaving or shortly after. The letter stated she had until June 30th to pay or it would be cancelled and we left on 22nd and came back on the 8th of July

Normally you would get more than a week to pay a bill before cancellation. She must already be late and that letter was sent during a grace period.....stating you have 1 more week before they cancel

Not necessarily siding with the business side, but looking at it from their perspective:

Customers often change insurance companies and most probably don't confirm with the insurance agency when their policies lapse. This is the case with me in the last few weeks when I changed my auto insurance company and I did not tell my former company, just let that policy lapse at the midnight when my new policy took over.

But now imagine customers who for whatever reason let their policies lapse but do not pick up new policies. 2-4 weeks later they get in an accident or need to file another claim and call and say they did really did mean to renew. If the insurance company covers them, who pays for this? Other policy holders in good standing do.

That doesn't mean that one is unsympathetic to real inadvertent, non-malingering reasons for lapses. Just thinking about a fair deal.

    WHY?
AND HOW MUCH TIME? a week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks?
you people live by "the dog ate my homework so its not my fault" way of thinking and its pathetic.

I guess when you bounce a check its the banks fault for giving a book of checks and not 5 a month, if you have checks left they must be good, right..

should the power company, phone company, cable company be forgiving too because people don't pay their bills on time...

you know you have the same bills EVERY MONTH ...again personal responsibility no longer exists, neither does common sense..

you live in ORLANDO...public transport is everywhere..its like saying theres no buses in Miami....

for the love of god don't have kids and teach them this way of thinking, we have enough 20 year old unemployable mothers of 3 in this state living off welfare...not her fault she gets knocked up every 3 years, right

I completely understand why the insurance company is denying her claim. Heck I've even heard of people with coverage no doubt about it get their claim denied

You can probably get coverage retroactively by calling in. But you can't call in and say you want to report a stolen car, they won't retroactively reinstate the policy if you do that

Her job requires her to drive all around central Florida. For hours and hours at a time. And I believe that you should at least be given a month to get things situated and if they don't receive payment by then, then they can drop you. Please stop assuming things and if you wish to argue about these kinds of matters and be rude go somewhere else.

Also the public transportation here is a joke. The buses from what I have seen come about once every hour and they only take you to some key points around the city where you could ride your bike or walk anyways. So if your job is way out of the city or you are like her and your job requires you to be at various locations in rapid succession then the public transportation is useless and you still need a car.

I think she was asking for ideas. Why everything has to be a referendum on personal responsibility is beyond sense. People, corporations and governments make mistakes all the time. Her's might cost $15-17k of lost value, other entities routinely through away employee retirements or citizens' lives.

    How
Tow truck since the key fobs weren't missing

    Why
Probably for parts at a chopshop - one guy here was recently complaining that his broken high tech Multi-function Display alone costs almost $9,000 and are not easy to find and everyone knows the HV battery cost and the tires and wheels are pricey too to say nothing about the sheetmetal, air bags, etc.

    How to Recover
Maybe the locator on the High Tech Package (check with Toyota dealer)

    Help with the Insurance
State Commissioner, autopay next time, use a better company next time (a good agent with a good company would call), and find a company with a longer grace period. I like USAA, Liberty Mutual, and State Farm.

so you want a MONTH to make a payment on a month to month policy?
    you are insane..

everything about your story is BULL, not arguing or being rude Im just restating what you posted and why its not realistic...

if her job is that important RENT A CAR BY THE WEEK..
go buy a $1000 car off craigs list..theres always a solution to a problem she caused..

now the buses are not good enough, OK take a cab or Uber, they just spent $500 million dollars on a train system in Orlando that runs every 15 mins....
Orlando is one of the biggest tourist areas in the world and you say theres no public transportation make me think you have never been there...
they have almost as many cabs running around as NY city....

I hate to say it but I agree. There are too many excuses here, and at the end of the day it's all hearsay. To make matters worse it's hearsay from a new member. It all sounds like "life's so unfair" from a teen, without them looking at the bigger picture, oh and at the end of the day life IS unfair.

That's what she is doing now to get herself around but it's insanely expensive to do so.

I am a teen and I'm not crying that life is unfair. I am angry that much is true. But who wouldn't be angry in this situation? I'm also not making any excuses. I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help her out here and came here looking for some advice.

At the end of the day life will go on and everything will be settled I know this. I just am hoping that my mother gets a small portion out of the thousands that have already previously been stolen from her and that most importantly the thieves get what's coming to them. Although I suspect the latter is out of the question since it has been so long that the car has went un reported. It's probably torn apart in some descrete location never to be seen again.

I've yet to hear a good story about an insurance company. I've had my share of experiences in dealing with them. Their bottom line is money, and frankly they don't care how they get it.

There are thousands of people who have been victims of natural disasters who have been screwed by insurance companies and probably way more by auto insurance companies.

The bottom line is to get familiar with the fine print of ANY contract, and especially insurance contracts. The fact that the company won't pay in this case is probably 100% legit, and unfortunately the woman is stuck. Although checking with the state insurance commissioner and consumer protection offices may help.

And I don't think for a minute that if the same situation happened to any one of us here we would just shrug our shoulders, roll over, and say "oh well, I should have paid my premium". Yeah, life is unfair, but sometimes you do fight back to the best of your ability, and on occasion can win.

    Just my 2 cents worth.

Well the Board of Directors could of had the car towed, for some crazy reason, so don't discount the possibility.

I really don't see a tow truck entering a condo community to tow/steal a car.........it's really crazy to think that can happen
