The above item for sale is the same unit as mine. All you need to rewire is the backup camera video input. I added an amp and its been working great.

Impressive looking Amp you have there, are you on the stock speakers?

I would like to at least change the Dash and the rear Speakers.

I'm really liking this head-unit. Some observations after few days of using it....

1: With the car in acc mode, I get some static noise from the speakers. It is unaffected by volume level.

2: I have to keep the EQ in "Rock" mode. The levels on other settings are quite poor. This may be due to stock speakers in my non-JBL 2010. The highs get very 'tinny'. I'm not an audio person...but it is an issue. I don't know whether I want to tackle a speaker install. It also may be due to internal amp issue. I pretty content with the Rock EQ, but maybe will have an audio retailer upgrade me in the future.

3: Sometimes music will stop playing when I'm attached to my iPhone. It is very random and an unplug-plug will get it going again.

4: Bluetooth phone via external mic, I am told, is very echo-y on the other end of the call. I'm not sure that this is able to be corrected. I also have an aftermarket BLU-Logic bluetooth unit in my car and may switch back to that for phone use.

5: Sygic GPS just will not work. I've tried several versions. Just get a black screen. It can't find maps I've loaded. It sometimes switches languages. I've tried side loading...seemingly everything. It's broke.

6: iGO Primo works fine. I emailed the NaviGear folks about a Mac version of their NaviToolBox and got the standard 'Use someone's windows machine to upgrade maps.'. In my opinion, this is poor customer support, since Mac user base is so much greater than it was in the past. This Toolbox app is the only way to install new maps on the unit. I may break down and get a window emulator for my iMac. (I like to tinker anyway...) (but really not with windows...) There also appears to be a localization issue with the map symbols. Mine are cryptic and I can't get them set to english. I installed "Waze" and have enjoyed that app. I do a lot of commuting and driving.

7: I'd like to get some more car-specific apps for it. Just need some ideas. I have Torque working. But are there some other 'must-have' apps?

i think waze is much better than those apps. I noticed that my center console 12v plug is non functioning. I probably rewire it.

"My Data Manager" app installed on my phone to track tethered data use by the Unit, uses 89MB in 5 days out of 3GB/month.

I received this reply from Sygic regarding their app. Thought I'd share as it explains why the app doesn't work:

"Unfortunately, the device is most likely rooted and the OS is modified to work on the Hardware provided by the manufacturer. Unfortunately, our app won't be fully compatible on this kind of system - for instance, if the device code in Sygic Menu → Settings → About has a generic form 012345678912345. There are many other devices with the same device code. Our app is fully compatible with non-modified Android OS and we can't guarantee the functionality of our app on this system.

You can verify this by going to Sygic → Menu → Settings → About and checking the device code."

This system can't be updated and were stocked with 4.4.4. If mirroring still supports it then I'm okay with it.

I don't think it will update due to no support. Chinese just build it like a disposable unit when it becomes obsolete. I think I'll go with the pioneer with carplay

Support must vary greatly depending on where the head unit is bought from.

Mine is from AutoPumpkin in China and it has Android 4.4.4. In an email today they mentioned that they are preparing an update to Android 5, also on their website I can see instructions and downloadable files to upgrade/flash slightly older units from 4.2 to 4.4.

Their support has been pretty good although I still have not got Torque working - it's looking like a problem in Android 4.4 as implemented on the HU which the upcoming upgrade to 5.0 may fix. Torque works fine on my phone so I am not too bothered about it. Otherwise I'm very pleased with it.

I'd imagine it would be possible to flash most or all of these units, but I'm no software expert and the Pumpkin instructions are quite specific depending on which head unit you have, so I'm going to wait for their official upgrade.

There is a vast thread here that discusses the various versions of these units and the many upgrade options etc. It currently runs to 1611 pages with over 16,100 posts and most of it goes straight over my head! -

I see there is a good summary of these Chinese units here -

I wasn't able to get Torque to see my obdii device until I deleted the preinstalled version and installing the newest version from Google play store.

My unit didn't have it pre-installed so I first just installed it from Google Play in the normal way. When it didn't work they sent me another version to try and some ideas to try but it failed in just the same way. On the XDA forum it is mentioned that with Android 4.4 not many bluetooth adaptors work with these units. I may try a WiFi adaptor or just wait and see it it works with Android 5.

There is another problem with Torque I forgot to mention - when it starts it also complains that it cannot find any internal memory "Unable to write to your handsets file storage" or something like that. I am waiting for a reply from Pumpkin about that, which may come Monday as it's the evening in China.
