I would be very interested in purchasing my 2013 Persona at lease end (next Feb). I will have to dig up my lease paperwork to get my exact payoff numbers, but I'm fairly certain the market value will be less than the payoff. Payoff now is $18,500 and KBB value is almost $2,000 less (private seller). I suspect this will be similar at lease end.

Forgetting the specific payoff numbers for the moment, has anyone been able to negotiate a purchase price at lease end with TF or do they stick purely to the contracted buyout price?

They normally stick with what's on your contract. However I believe Nissan has provided a few thousand dollars as incentives for people to buy their LEAFS after lease, since it's over $7000 difference between payoff and the market value.

In the case of Toyota, they probably won't budge. They'll want your car back in CA and sell it for $20,000 on their lots.

The dealership should be able to buy it back and resell it to you for cheaper or so I've been told. Talk to them if you have an amicable relationship.

I kinda figured as much. I think it's pretty shortsighted of them to have such a policy. As it is, the dealership where the car is returned will probably get a shot at the car and, if they pass, it will likely go to auction. I would be happy to pay a "fair" retail price but only within reason. It would truly be a win-win if they would do that. I'll give it a shot but I don't have high expectations.
