The engine has to warm up so that it is ready to go, then EV mode will work. After the engine is warm it will start immediately in EV.

What is your location? What is the morning temperature where it is parked?

I can no longer keep track of all the 'v' differences, but my GenIII Liftback can not go into EV when the engine coolant temperature is below 68 F (20 C).

Nope. While the reverse propulsion is entirely through an electrical path, none of it through a purely mechanical path, that is not sufficient to be called EV. EV means the electricity comes from battery only, not from ICE-MG1.

The EV engine coolant temperature threshold of 68 F in mine applies to Reverse the same as Drive.

I watched the video of the hypermiller at a dealership in NV or CA and in there it was mentioned about shifting out of park before engine starts to get into EV mode without engine running. Said it was useful for parking lots , etc. I don't remember the exact procedure right now, but it did work for me too when I tried it after watching video.

This may be possible to force keeping engine off for slow speed driving.

You can turn EV mode on straight away, cold engine, providing there are more than 3 bars on the HV battery, as soon as the "READY" mode appears.
You have to press the EV button within 20 seconds of the "READY" light appearing or the ICE comes on in warm up mode and you can't select EV then. You can only move up to 20mph and accelerate gently in this cold EV mode or the ICE will cut in.
This is not recommended for the start of a normal journey as the ICE has to recover the HV charge that you just used in EV mode when it starts up and in warm up mode it uses most of its power to charge the HV battery and the car is propelled by the HV, so it drives like a limp d**k, because the HV is low, unless you floor the pedal.
It's ok to use the cold EV to move the car off the driveway etc.

You can, on you UK-market models. We cannot, on our US-market models.

We have an engine coolant minimum temperature requirement of 20 Celsius / 68 Fahrenheit. You, along with most of the rest of the world, have a lower threshold temperature.

    Fuzzy1,

Aaaarrrrgggghhh! The US gets screwed yet again in the automotive world. Europe always gets the best from automakers - and gets it first.

Not always. We got the longer battery warranty first. There have been hints that the EV restrictions were related to that.

This is what I do when I have to move my v (US Spec) around the property without using the ICE. Press START, press EV and as long as there are more than 3 bars on the battery and I don't floor it, it stays in EV.
