    I have been very interested in this topic. I am tired of the poor sound quality of an FM modulator and ready to try installing the AUX-BOX or AUX-POD from cardomain. I have two questions...

    1) You installed the AUX-BOX. Did you consider the AUX-POD?

    2) To install the AUX-BOX it sounds like you needed three items...the actual Aux-Box, PAC-TOY cable and a y connector thing. What was the part number for the Y connector (I think that you said you bought from discount car stereo)? Any other necessary parts/items?

    <I have had the AUX-Box on my 05 Prius for 6mos now and it works perfectly. It does require both cables as mentioned before. We didn't buy the factory changer so the input was open for the Y cable to plug right in. I used the directions posted elsewhere here to pull out factory head unit out to access the input as I couldn't get my hand in there. It only took about 1hr to do it myself and could do it in half the time now. There are some great directions posted on here for pulling the dash apart.>

    I am still confused. Do I need to get the Toyota Y cable and both the AB-TOY and AB-TOY T cables to make the AUX-Box work?

    Can someone list all the cables needed and an place to purchase them?

    Thanks!

    I'm on the verge of buying the aux-box or aux2car. The aux2car looks like it includes headphone jack, while aux-box only has RCA inputs. Anyone find any better deals than the websites below?

    The aux-box is listed for $72.95 + $12.95 (AB-TOYT cable) + $9.94 (s&h) and says it includes cable at http://www.hookedontronics.com/show_produc...s.jsp?cid=17917
    I think the cable they give you will not be enough and you still have to buy the TOYT cable.
    Total = $95.84

    The aux2car is listed for $89.98 + $13.98 (PXHTY3 cable) + $7.65 (s&h) at
    http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=749
    Total = $ 111.61

    Correct on the 2 cable version: you need TOY and TOYT for the Prius and other newer Toyota radios (like 2004 and up?).

    The new cable (PXHTY3) is a single cable with BOTH new and old connectors...meaning it will work on ANY Toyota stereo...

    Those are really good prices...I'd opt for the Aux-Pod, it charges the iPod, and you get steering wheel controls to change tracks and great sound from the iPod special connector, not the headphone jack.

    The Aux-box and Aux2car are just RCA inputs...no charging, no steering wheel controls, and you'd use a headphone to RCA cable for sound...but less expensive!

    Cheers,

    Curt.

    PS Plus with Aux-Pod (or Ipod2 car, whatever it's called these days) you can toggle to CD, to AM/FM and such and the iPod shuts off automatically. Well, there are some glitches in mine but I've learned how to overcome them...just toggle the previous track button on the steering wheel to gain control of the iPod if it somehow loses communication. I was unplugging and plugging it back in to reset things, but found this workaround works great...Any other questions, just ask me!

    I've finally installed the aux box. I cannot tell whether the plug is all the way inserted, but it seems snug. The plug did accidentally come out after i was fiddling with the white box, but it's back in. I used the left passenger vent method and it took me ~45min.

    One comment: the male connector shown on page 4 of http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=3457 did not plug in the back of my radio.

    Instead, the smaller male connector on page 11 of http://priuschat.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=2483 did fit in. The extra tab stuff was pointing down when the plug went in.

    The confusion over the correct plug caused me serious frustration. I don't know if everyone's car uses the same connectors, my car is a 2005 non-JBL.

    Good luck with your install.
