Blessings. I am about 3 weeks away from purchasing. I am in communication with two dealerships in two different region of Tejas. I am going for a Magnetic Gray with Pkg 6.

What do I need to know before signing on the line? Please help.

Nice color choice. Do you have any specific questions about your purchase? If not, John's site is a great site to start with. You can download and print all sorts of Prius info for your records.

    Congrats on your purchase! :)

    Hola Cesar,

If I recall correctly, in most (all?) regions, Magnetic Gray isn't due to come out until the end of May. This may add to the wait times for that particular car (even on top of the relatively long waits for the Prius in general). If you have a dealer that says they can sell you a Magnetic Gray car in 3 weeks, then more power to you. Just make sure that they are actually going to have that color by then.

    Good Luck!

    heliotropehead,
I guess I can come up with a few. The car on the top of my list (really the only one available soon) has the Extra Mile Option Package A installed. Is this a good buy? Also, what are my options for an extended warranty. I assume I will keep this car a long time. Next, I am hoping to buy it for no more than 25K. Is this realistic? On that note, are there any Prius friendly Auto Loan peeps. I SHOULD add I have never bought a car and this feels stressful and exciting!

Welcome, and congratulations, soon-to-be Prius owner!

With regards to the extended warranty, I would highly recommend it. However, I would NOT recommend purchasing it through your dealer if they are selling it for more than $1000. The very same Toyota extended warranty is available here on Priuschat for $990 (but don't tell your dealer where you found it if they ask). Keep in mind that you have until 3years/36K miles to purchase this warranty, so there's no big rush to buy it right away.

As a first time car buyer myself, I went with Capital 1 for my auto loan. They had the lowest rate of any credit unions or auto loan companies I checked around with, and they approved me right away for a certain $ amount, and mailed me a blank check that I used the day I purchased and picked up my Prius. Very painless transaction, I've been very happy with them so far. I went with them through Costco (their rates thru Costco are lower than directly with Capital 1), if you have a Costco membership. You can also check out Bankrate.com for auto loan rates in your area and online. :)

MSRP for Package #6 is $26,190.00 according to Toyota.com's Build A Prius selection. There are plenty of posters on here who have been able to purchase their Priuses for less than MSRP, so you may be able to haggle your dealer down to $25K if that's the highest price you want to pay. Many places offer Priuses at MSRP and still more charge above and beyond MSRP, so it's best to check around and see what your dealer can do for you price-wise. And make sure they don't try to add on any pricey add-ons (lojack, paint protection, fabric guard- to name a few)

    Cesar,

what is included in the "extra mile" package? if it's some toyoguard paint sealant and an undercoating, pass on it. it's $600 down the drain.

make sure you are not paying more than MSRP on your car, and don't finance at the dealer no matter how good your credit score is.

    buena suerte ;)

A lot of that stuff sounds like dealer profit to me. The tape stripe, the first-aid kit, and the fabric guard are absolutely worthless. The fabric is already protected with really good stuff at the factory, and additional "protection" will not help. The rear bumper protector is probably some cheap worthless thing. And road hazzard insurance is probably available for $8 per year as a line item on your car insurance.

Disfrute de su neuvo coche. Es el más maravilloso del mundo. Y bienvenido a Prius Chat.

Thanks! You all have been a lot of help. Muchas gracias a tod@s. I am not going for the Extra Mile Package. It sounds like bologne. I got a late night call from my other salesman. He is talking to me about a Black with Pkg 1 that has not touched the port yet. Supposedly, at port he can add what I want.

Do you all have any experience with this?

Please do a search for IIHS Crash Test and look at the videos. You really want to get the side curtain airbags if you can possibly afford it. Without the curtain airbags, the side impact vehicle came right through the door and window to smack the head of the dummy.

I don't think the Package 1 has these airbags.

I bot a 2006 Super White with just Package # 1 four weeks ago. I am very pleased with it. I had leather seats in my previous vehicle, and by the third year, they were cracking and wrinkling bad, so I preferred cloth seats this time. I didn't really care about most of the other package options such as a navigation system, smart key system, and rear camera (I know a lot of people complain about rear visibility, but I have no problem with it; it's a lot better on my Prius than it was on my Mazda Tribute SUV that was my previous vehicle). About the only thing I miss is having a 6-disc CD changer, but it's not worth the price they are asking, and I don't really change out CDs that often anyhow.

I agree with Bill Merchant. Safety is paramount. Get a pkg that has ALL the air bags. VSC is also a life-saver if you will ever drive in slippery conditions. SKS is really super-cool, but it is not necessary. NAV is navigation. Whether you want it depends on your needs. You can get a stand-alone navigation unit cheaper.

But DO get all the air bags.

We'll drive you crazy with all our varied suggestions!

I recommend the Pkg. #3. It gets you the airbags PLUS the "Smart Key", which is one cool invention. It also gets you the backup camera, which to me is a toy of little value (but may help with resale). Do you have am mp3 player you want to use? The #3 gets you the auxiliary plug for that, too. You can get a #3 for very close to $25K. (BTW, the carpeted mats are automatically included @ $186 at most dealers, and that rear bumper decal/protector is about $65. The rest of those package items are largely garbage, and many Tejas dealers love to stick customers with them.)

If you can't find a dealer that won't stick you with one of those packages, you can buy your car in Roswell, NM!

    Good luck, senor.

Cesar, what sort of advice do you want? How to negotiate buying a car, or what options to get on a Prius, or something else?
