Hi everyone, I just got a 2007 Prius, and unfortunately it only came with one key fob.

I'm not quite sure exactly if I have the SKS system or not plus I'd like to know what kind of options I have for fixing the fob I have and getting an additional one.

Here are the photos of the fob-

I want to know which one I have, and can I get a used fob and re program, or does it need to be new? Also, since this one looks like crap, can I replace the outer shell with one I've seen on eBay that is around $10? Basically you take the guts from your old existing fob, and put them in a new shell. I can post links if you need to see the exact models I'm referring to.

Thanks! So far having a Prius is great! I'll do a thread with pics and other general questions very soon.

the silver logo should be for the SKS system and you should have a button under the steering wheel to turn the system on and off.
I have never seen the replacement cases that cheap.
are you sure its not the silicone cover? if it is it will not fit in the dash slot .
open the remote you will see a sticker inside with the model number/ FCC number of the remote, you must order the same numbers than get it programed to work with your car.

yes, you can replace the shell. there are several good threads here on programming fobs. see 'avi', 'ovni', and 'usnavystgc' and 'etc'. all the best.(y)

bisco is correct. There are many options - I have tried two for my Gen 2 fobs (both purchased on eBay and both had excellent customer service):

    (1) Seller keyecu2013 (Item # 231594028012) sells the entire plastic shell for $22 with shipping from China. Looks great although missing the Toyota logo. The buttons work just like the original except are flexible plastic instead of rubber.

    (2) Seller wesplas (Item # 201360675812) sells just the rubber insert for $15 with shipping from Australia. This fits very well and is "squishier"/softer than the shell replacement. You keep the original plastic case so it looks original except the rubber is all black instead of the white logos in your current one.
