$200 to repaint the hood, that is way too low. To paint the hood and front bumper and have it blend in, you are looking at around $1,200 to $1,500. I would just use a bra to cover it up. I have one and actually like the look.

I just installed the bra. but was thinking vinyl wrap would also work.

Try playing around with Plasti-Dip. It really does peel off if you're not happy so there is zero liability, other than the $5 per can. I've found it takes hardly any skill to use and I'm no painter.

Maybe we could start something new. My color is Salsa Red Pearl and I, too, have the same stone chips in my hood.
I have heard a lot of good things about PlastiDip. Cost to refinish at the body shop was $400. We could all do the PlastiDip and report back how it works.
I have seen carbon fiber hoods on the 'net. My question would be how good is the quality?

I'm intrigued by the plasti-dip option, since it can be color matched......but I'd try Option #3, which would be to look at the MDF more and the stone chips less....especially on a 10-year-old car.
Even with $2 gas......it's nice to see 50MPG.

There are a lot of kids in this area that are doing the body-shop hood thing. I think they call it something different than that but I always like the look that they get when I tell somebody with a $40,000 muscle car and a blackened out hood that it's a shame about the hood being trashed and recommending a local body shop.

Leather Bra's are the "Member's Only" jacket for cars.....something best left in the past - and they will certainly damage the paint.

    Good Luck!!!
If you go with the Plasti-dip, post pix!! :)

Wonder if I could get one of those plastic wrap (in carbon fiber)? Oh my I think I may be on to something.

Wonder what they would charge for the hood only?

I've used Dr. Paint Chip kits on both of my cars and have been very happy with the results. Others have posted similar results here.

Also, the 3M shield mentioned here has been highly recommended here before.
