Got these bad codes yesterday on my 2007. Toyota service said the car needs total hybrid replacement for about $3,300. The car has 188K on it. Does this sound right, folks?

The service guy said those are bad battery codes. I can't get any more detail out of him.

Can I order the parts online? Can any good repair place work on this?

Any repair place that is willing to work on hybrids can do it.

But the reality is, many repair places aren't willing to work on hybrids.

    Where are you located?

Neither PO3000 nor PO38A are valid DTC.

P3000 is a valid DTC. If your car logged that, the meaning is that the hybrid vehicle ECU thinks there is a problem with the traction battery or the traction battery ECU.

If you had a valid second code, we might be able to comment on whether the traction battery actually had failed.

Hahaha. And sadly you paid them to supposedly connect the miniVCI cable and their laptop to run Techstream.

Demand a refund or insist on seeing the technician connect the miniVCI cable and run the Techstream software for a full system diagnostic.

Why don't you get techstream yourself? $25 off Amazon/eBay. You'll need a second laptop w/ a 32bit OS running Win XP or 7.

Advance carries Doorman junk for $1350. Too many stories of people having issues, requiring a replacement. If you like saving a few dollars and love inconvenience, then get a Doorman, or any rebuilt for that matter.

If you can afford $2K, get a new HV Battery from a Toyota Dealership who sells online. You will just need to find a dealer near you, drive to one, or see if your local dealers will price match. Just make sure that dealer will sell to you, as some people have reported issues of dealers refusing to sell to a retail consumer; I'm sure there are laws against this. Also bring your old HV Battery to avoid the core charge, and bring tools to remove the various ECUs and install them into the new battery.

Cheapest online prices for HV Battery:
    Olathe Toyota (Olathe, KS) $1941.50
San Bernardino Toyota (San Bernardino, CA) $2070.94
North Hollywood Toyota (N Hollywood, CA) $2122.71
    Camelback Toyota (Phoenix, AZ) $2174.48

    Finally got the CDR from
    Toyota service ticket:

    PO3000, C1241, PO8A0

Drove the car home from the dealership today. Barely any acceleration toward the end. I have a really bad feeling about this...
