In fluid dynamics, the drag coefficient (commonly denoted as: cd, cx or cw) is a dimensionless quantity that is used to quantify the drag or resistance of an object in a fluid environment, such as air or water. It is used in the drag equation, where a lower drag coefficient indicates the object will have less aerodynamic or hydrodynamic drag. The drag coefficient is always associated with a particular surface area.

Yes to this sentiment, and supported.

I think it's perfectly fine to voice your passion for/against this thing in discussion, but I think some of us need to chill out with trying to nullify opposing opinions with direct and indirect ad hominems. Trust me, it's far from clever. Understand that everybody else is just staying their hand.

Yes, I know. In cars, that area is the frontal area.

So, Drag force = 1/2 * rho * frontal area * v^2 * Cd where rho is air density and v is velocity.

So, if two cars have the same Cd but different frontal areas, they will have different amounts of drag at the same speed.

Or, put another way, altering a car to have a Cd of 0.24 from 0.26 will have less impact on aerodynamic losses than changing from 2m^2 of frontal area to 1.8m^2 because 0.24*2 > 1.8*0.26.

Okay then, I'm glad we cleared that up. I can see my personal Cd is not very efficient because the mass of my frontal mid section sticks out further than my rho do! I can see that I will need to increase my velocity to compensate for aerodynamic shortcomings.

I thought there was a photo of the shifter posted around here and it was similar to the Gen III.

I saw that, too. It looks like a Gen III shifter knob. Appeared blue and carbon fiber like.
